I have a friend who claims he can eat the hottest pepper ever and don't bother him at all. I've seen him eat jalapeno peppers and drink beer and never blink. So I have been searching around for hot peppers to bring him down. Found and ordered some seeds from what is supposed to be the hottest seeds ever.
They originated in Northeast India and are called Bhut Jolokia which means Ghost Chili.
A scale of measuring heat called Scoville Heat Units shows that Bhut Jolokia has 1,oo1,304 SHUs.Compare this to the hottest chile,Red Savina, which measures less than half that (248,556 SHUs),and average jalapeno which measure at 10,000 SHUs.
I have them in potts now growing in the house.
My question is, Has anyone ever grown these or even heard of them?

Oh,a thought entered my mind. Do ya think I might save on my heat bill by raising them in the house?

A word of caution: Don't stop picking them and take a leak without washing your hands first.
And when you are finshed with em and cut them down with the lawn mower be carfull the gas off of them can take your breth.

Ditto on that; and whatever you do don't get near your eyes without washing. I would use latex gloves to handle them and then throw the gloves away. I'm not joking if you get that stuff in your eyes you will be in a world of hurt.

You could have probably done the job with a pepper called a Scotch Bonnet or a Habanero. Keep us posted on the results. I've got a BIL that's the same way, I'd love to bring him down.

I was gonna say Habanero. That is the pepper that will bring my husband to his beggin knees. I don't understand what this whole contest is about? What is it about grown men that will make them abuse themselves like this to prove something?

You don't see too many women doint that. We know better. If you want pain, try child birth. :D

I guess, for a man, that's about as close as it gets... Sorry about that.

Let me start by saying I love jalapenos, habernaros, chili pequine, etc. I have been growing bhut's a couple of years and I have several seedlings I'll be putting in soon. These are evil, wicked, little peppers. I don't care how much you like hot peppers, these will get your attention. You have to let them ripen to a bright orange-red to get the full effect. One good size plant will produce all the peppers you can eat or give away. I work with some Mexican men who love hot peppers, and they told me to stop bringing these to them as they were "way too hot". Good luck, these things make grown men cry like little girls. :cry2:

White Buffalo, how hard are they to raise. I have quite a few plants coming up in little planters now and will be able to put them in the garden soon.

Yhanks Cal

Actually they are pretty easy to grow. Just treat it like a jalapeno or habernaro. They don't do so well in pots. I grow a few in pots and overwinter them just to get a head start with a larger plant in the spring. They just don't produce in a pot like they will planted in good garden soil. You may get a couple of bloom drops, kinda like with habernaros. But don't worry they will produce when the conditions get right. They may get the ghost pepper moniker from the way they produce, you have to look very closely to see the peppers because they blend so closely with the leaves on the plant. Good luck, and maybe post a picture of your friend after he takes a bite and has to down a six pack.

An older lady told me once "I've given birth and I've passed a kidney stones and believe me, I'd rather have a baby anyday". :lol2:
