I'm debating on making a small lot fenced in by my barn and by the house that I can keep an eye on things, such as something calving or weaning some calves.

I put up 5 strand barbed wire around the rest of my place, but would like this to be a little more stout to keep smaller calves in or other critters out.

I'm debating on what to use this go around. I am thinking all 6" wood post, but that is as far as I have gotten.

I know woven wire can be good, but I've also considered cattle panels. I will of course add a hot wire to the interior, but just trying to think what would be a decent fence for this.

Any suggestions?

woven wire stretched very tight with a strand or 2 of barbwire above it would be what I'd use, if that wont hold them there's something wrong

those 24' freestanding panels hard for an animal to knock over when they're chained together? They look super stout
I think I'm up to 16 of them. I fought, kicked and screamed that they were to expensive until I needed to fill a spot in a feed lot that didn't have any posts. I bought 4 and was instantly sold on them. Mine weigh 600lbs and are about 5'6" tall. I've had bulls fighting slide them over, but never seen one rock. Never had anything try to jump them either.

I would use Stay Tough 949-6 high tensile fixed knot. Comes 330' or 660' rolls. Calves can't stick their heads through it and it's easy to put up. We built our corral catch/weaning trap out of it 6 or 7 years ago and haven't had any issues with calves getting out.
