Best colognes and aftershaves

I'm wondering what aftershaves and colognes you guys use. I ask because I recently organized some bathroom cabinets, and I have several bottles of cologne and aftershaves that have been given to me at Christmas and such. It looks like most is the drugstore stuff. Some of it is probably junk. So, what is good and what is bad? I'd be glad to throw most of this in the garbage if it's no good. No longer married, so can't ask the wife. I want a manly smell and not a perfume factory scent.

What better place to find what real men use than here. Any of you go for the expensive stuff?

In my early 20's I used to take a drip of my own pee and dab it behind my ear. It worked well, possibly too well. I had women literally throwing themselves on me. It was fun for a couple of months until I pulled a hamstring. Now I wear nothing but I will ocassionally dab a little crude oil behind my ear.

So, does "aftershave" actually do something beneficial for your skin? Or is it all about scent? If it does, then go with something unscented.

I agree, toss 'em all. My wife liked my natural scent when we were dating, and we have been married 44 1/2 years. When I was younger, I liked British Sterling
and English Leather.

I have a ton of colognes so many its hoarderish but I use aqua due gio mostly and a lot by Salvatore ferragomo however you spell it I'm in shop or I'd go check spellings. Well then there's cool water then hoop I also use lol you get the point :hide:

Back in the days of chasing two-leggers, I used Tommy Cologne by Tommy Hilfiger. Used pretty sparingly at $80 a bottle. I think I used two bottles over 5 years.

Then I wised up, and opted for the four-leggers - they prefer I smell like a barn.

But on the odd time I have to be around too many of the two-leggers, I now opt for cheap Axe spray.

I agree, a man usually smells good naturally. Save one or two of your favorites for special occasions though. ;-)

Never was big on shaving, so aftershave lasted a long time... particularly despised people who marinated in it... I think the best smell is no smell... and am quite cautious about getting rid of 'farm smells' about me before social engagements... all I can say is I hope I'm successful at it, because I sure as heck can't tell.

I heard the smell of money works well, especially if you're wet behind the ears

I am going to disagree strongly here. I really like the smell of cologne or aftershave on a man, if it is not overdone. I could just bury my face in that smell on my husband's neck. Isn't that the goal? He wears STETSON of all things it is cheap but it smells great on him. I also like other colognes. The big key to cologne is that it must mix right with YOUR personal body chemistry. So the same cologne could smell horrible on someone else.

I agree. Sometimes a certain cologne on a man does smell "manly!"
Others can be too over powering.....so choose wisely.

Yes. Aftershave actually helps sooth the skin after a shave. Some are alcohol based, which isn't as good for dry skin, but it's the kind I like. There are aftershave balms as well. Of course, they are also scented. Cologne, as far as I know, is just for fragrance.

It's interesting to hear all the guys here who use nothing. Maybe soap and water is the rugged man's smell.

I own two, but don't use them often. My favorite is Mary Kay's High Entensity and my wife's is Kenneth Cole's Reaction. I spray in the air and walk through the mist and it seems to be plenty.

Dang AC, this is a side of you we rarely see.

I have never actually purchased cologne in my life but somehow I have 6 or 7 bottles of various types of spray on or dab on fragrances all by Ralph Lauren so somebody must either be trying to tell me I stink or (hopefully) they like the scent.
