What was the best advice you ever recieved? Either somehitng that helped shape you or your life.

Don't remember exactly how it was worded, "But don't be afraid to takes chances or make mistakes". Person was saying to accomplish anything you made a few mistakes along the way.
Another person said " Don't worry so much about what others think", my uncle made that comment to my mother once when my parents had bought something and she was worried about what her youngest brother would say about it. Her brother in law said why worry he is not paying for it.

This might not fit as it may be closer to the dont drink up stream type, but i was told to be nice to the people you meet going up the ladder in life because they will be the same ones you meet on the way back down, one of my grandpas told me that.
Another grandpa was telling about a situation he had with another man, and he made the point that you shouldnt worry about people thinking they are better than you, he said that they put their pants on just like you one leg at a time.

When I was just starting in farming I visited an older farmer and his advise to me was "put your money in flesh, not cast."

That's very similar to what I was told (by my boss about 35 years ago). "Don't ever go to your boss with a problem without also suggesting at least one possible solution."

Avoid making decisions while overly emotional (angry, greiving, love) as it is almost impossible to make logical, well thought out decisions while in a heightened emotional state. As soon as the heart takes over, the mind shuts off.
