please forgive my crazy questions.
I have never seen cattle with such long horns. So here are the questions?
How do they go through dense bush with out breaking their horns?
How do you get them in a head gate?
That's so much weight on their heads, do they get crusty from headaches? :D :D :D

Very easily, they actually use the horns to manuever the limbs. They thrive in dense brush.
How do you get them in a head gate?
We don't. We use a chute, and many breeders use a medina hinge type gate.

They actually do very well... i think. I guess since they grow up with them, they get used to them.

Long horns? There are many others out there with longer horns...lol.

People don't put Longhorns thru a head gate unless they're calves or others with young (less than 12-18" spread) horns.

Longhorn people use the "Medina Hinge" concept for Longhorns.

I thought this was going to be something about preparing beef tongue to eat. I haven't been quite able to eat that. Not that it hasn't been in tamales and such, only I didnt know it.

Okay, off subject, but anyone eat menudo? (Did I even spell that right?? :roll: ) Some who does tell me how you do it. My husband will eat that stuff for breakfast! (stomach turning...) :oops:

Just google "menudo" and you'll get all kinds of recipes and instructions. Seems there are many variations, but most seem to be pretty similar. It is delicious when it's right. You might also need someone to show you how to eat it. Tecnique is very important.

Now, beef tongue. I just boil the hell out of it, skin it, and slice real thin for sandwiches mostly. Gotta just use what ever spices sound good to you for the boiling. My mother used to do it up as a sandwich spread (like chicken or tuna salad) but I don't know what's involved there.
