Has anyone on the board had experience with beavers on they property?

This is one of the best set ups for a joke I have seen in a long time, thanks rookie but I have to pass on making any comments at this point. I am sure that many of the esteemed members of this 'community' will have 'ideas' to post.

I will take the bait for a fellow northeastern Kansan.

I've had my share of beavers. They built a couple dams on a creek where we keep cattle that backed the water up so high the cattle couldn't cross. They also took out about an acre of my corn field last year. Coming up from the city lagoons. I had a guy in trapping them, hope he got them all. I've had to tear out a couple beaver dams before. Best way to rid of beavers is partially tear the dam out, and sit on the creek bank with a .223 rifle. When they come up to fix the dam, you can fix them the right way. I never have tried trapping, easier to just shoot the darn critters.

I have seen little beavers, big beavers, and beavers that fall somewhere in the middle. Haven't seen any beavers lately.

Many thanks for the reply.I dont wanna get rid a one. I got me a small pond what serves pretty much as a waterin hole for the horses . I was planning on havin the hole dredged out somewhat deeper and cleaned up a bit, and what then I discovered was I had me a young buck beaver what had moved in and was commence ta building him a lodge in said pond. I been around here mosta my life and this hits me as quite unusual, I just cant seem ta grasp where the beaver come from. We be about 30 miles from the Kaw river and that be one of two places I even seen a beaver what I'd call close ta our place. Seen one now and again on Stranger creek, but even that be a good piece from us. Never yet seen one in any a tha ponds in our area and Ive fished alot of em. Anyhoo, I don’t wanna run the little critter off, I be wonderin will it run im off if I go ahead and dredge without doin any damage ta tha construction he be doin? My wife, havin some Native American ancestry, say it be a good thing. Called him a Indian name, said it meant "center of nature" or somethin like that.

Don't know if dredging the pond will run him off or not. They are pretty interesting creatures, but they can build their dams somewhere othere than a creek my cattle need to cross.

It's gonna be awful hard for you to do all that work around a beaver and not disturb it. Whether or not your wife thinks a beaver is the center of the nature or not is irrelevant.. You could have a problem on your hands if the Kansas Division of Wildlife finds out that you were messing with their beaver without permission..

I have no idea. You have to have a furbearers license to trap them. I know what I have done in the past is not legal. I leave them alone if they aren't bothering me, but sometimes they build dams in the worst locations.
