Bear season

@kenny thomas Do y'all hunt with dogs, or just hunt from a stand over bait? We don't have any down here, except some over in the Okefenokee Swamp, but they don't get no where near that big. North Georgia has a lot of bear, but a big male will only be 450-500 lbs. Looks like they are getting plenty to eat up there!

Its illegal to bait them here so several of the club members have bear dogs.
When we first started getting bear here maybe 20 year ago they were rarely over 300lb. Many of those had 1 or 2 ear tags but of course the Game Commission said they weren't turned loose. We knew better. Problem bear around campgrounds and in towns are captured and moved to more remote areas but get ear tagged to identify them if they are caught again. 2 ear tags mean they have been caught 2 times. Most were turned loose in Kentucky on state lands but not nearly enough land for as many bear as they brought in. I can see one tract of Ky Game Commission land from my front porch so they became a problem very quickly.

I will be carrying a 44 magnum around now. I saw one close my house not long ago and a neighbor got four in the same picture on his trail camera just across the river from my house. If they get a taste for cow meat I have had the lick.

The guys here usually have at least 2 dogs on top of the dog box. The box has carpet or heavy rugs on top so the dogs can stand up. Also has a rail around the top on 3 sides so the dogs wont fall off and it gives something to tie them to.
That's awesome. I like any thing with dogs. I'm with you, I would pay to be on the lease even if I didn't do the killing. I would just make myself handy so they would take me along. 😄

A lady less than 20 minutes away shot what was the 3rd largest black bear in America at the time. Probably thirty years ago now. Was in the UP. He was 800+ his head and hide filled a 30gal drum. They had to have him mounted on all fours so he would fit in there house!
