Due to be in the Gulf of Mexico sometime Monday afternoon.
Weather guru's say it could be a category 3 by the time it makes landfall. The projected path, as of today, shows it hitting New Orleans. Let's hope those folks are prepared for this one. ;-)

My husband has XM radio he listens to while he drives truck, and the "experts" say that it may turn into quite a storm, and hit the side of Texas where the oil is drilled, and being they haven't fully recovered from last year, they are already talking $5 a gallon for gas, if this happens. Might want to take precaution and filler up now. What I don't get is why diesel fuel is higher than gas? Really stinks though, how we got to pay for it on the farm, for our diesel farm truck, and also get it taken out as a diesel surcharge out of our milk checks, this alone is really playing havoc with our budget!! OK I got my whining attack over for the day!!! ;-) ;-)

Nothing breaks a drought like a hurricane.

Even up here in Indiana, when it's dry we look for the ones that come in on the Gulf Coast. They'll usually follow the river up here.

I bought diesel Thursday. Guess I'll go fill the pickup.

Shucks we are right up here in tornado alley. I put steel bands in the walls when I built this house.

Last year they were predicting Katrina to come through here and we were overjoyed. She turned east.

We are in dire need of rain. Seriously. We'll take any storm we can get.

Maybe Ernesto will quiet to a tropical storm and spare the coast. This country side is going to go up in smoke if we don't get some relief quick.

The rural communities are hurt the worst as they don't have the money to rebuild and the utilities are all worried with the city folk before they even look at the rural communities.

I was in Orangefield when Karla hit. Not a direct hit for us.

Last year we lost many communities to wildfire. You're right too about it taking out the poorest folks. Folks with no nickels to buy insurance. Many of them in mobiles. Some even lost vehicles along with houses, sheds - everything. This year is getting about as bad except we haven't had the high winds.

I read on the internet this morning that the "experts" say it could hit New Orleans Wed or Thursday, wouldn't that be a bad deal? Most times they talk and like you say Warpaint, they change their minds many times throughout the course. I still say it will increase gas prices. Seems just certain words increase gas prices lately :) :)

I know that feeling I was like that on Friday when we got rain after about 3-4 weeks without a drop. Fields are already greening up.

Hope everyone gets some rain without the violent winds. Raining steadily here at our place as I type. Have had about 1/2 inch overnight. Its unusual for us to get any rain much in August. We could have the best spring ever.

Ernesto storm track seems to be changing a lot every few hours, now it looks like it'll head right up the east coast line after crossing over Florida, so maybe we'll get some moisture out of this...everything is brown and crunchy here and it's been hot as well. Don't recall seeing a storm's pattern change so much this often...weird?

In all seriousness, if that thing looks like it will pass within 100 miles of me, I've got 4 herds of 250 each to move on Tuesday. (the herds on low ground). I'm saving my dogs just in case. If a little farther out, I've got to babysit two big Detroit diesel pumps through the storm anyway. Not exactly a reason to celebrate, but we've gotten a little more acclimated to these storms than most.

Please send some this way! Today I had to finally break down and haul water from a friends pond in the next county over. The river that runs across from our place went dry over a week ago. The creek that runs through this place went dry about 3 weeks ago. I've had to put the cows up on "the hill" where the winter stockpile is as well as a small pond. My "lower" pastures are basically dead.

It seems that every time it has rained/showered in the last month and a half it skirted this area. Now in the next county north of here, where I work, they've been baling hay like crazy and everything is lush and green. Go figure.
