Yep, me too. I like Gaucho a 15 ½ gauge high tensile wire made in Arkansas. It is lighter than the regular 12 ga cold rolled wire and is cheaper. It doesn't stretch, even on 2 pt. the barbs are mercilessly sharp....get stuck every time I get around it...drawing blood, and the zinc coating outlasts the commonly available wire at least 2:1. I prefer the 2 barb over the 4. Different barb design (besides being 2x per) and easier to work. Barbs are closer together than reg. wire.

Being high tensile it works differently than the regular wire. No biggie getting used to it. Most of my fencing is over 30 years old, Gaucho, and I'm yet to find any of it rusted....including the barbs which are usually what rusts first on regular wire.

I prefer a single hot wire 6" to 8" off the ground to keeps your dog's in the yard. And a high tensile electric 12 ga for a permanent fence. The three wire permanent needs to be 12" to 14" off the ground and no higher than 36" to 40" the deer don't even know the fence is there. I can't keep a calf inside a 5 strand barbed wire fence. I find a deer a year hung in our barb wire fences.

Calves are the worst. Had one about 2 months old go thru a 5 strand 2 days ago when I was moving about 20 mommas and their calves. All the rest of the calves followed their mommas around a 90 degree turn, but this once decided to cut across thru the fence which put it isolated in a little pasture with 2 bulls and 3 open cows and an hour later the calf went right back out the way she came in and rejoined it's momma.
It's one of the barb fences I've yet to make into a 7 or 8 strand fence by stretching barbless ht between the lower strands of barbed wire.

I've had to do the same with my outer fences that are 5 strand 12 gauge. Calves would go right through them. Since I've gone to 6 strands of 15.5 HT I haven't had a single one even attempt it. It could be partly because my corners have been better recently as well.
