Bad winter for barbed wire here. Lots of stretched out wire, and some breaks. Drifts were way over the top of a 4 strand fence.

It seems like I have to restrech certain areas every couple years. Would a guy be better off just replacing the barbed wire with high tensile, or is the another option?

Steve, I have pretty much gone to all smooth HT for that very reason. Will have to replace a few insulators each year in the really bad drift areas, but that's a piece of cake compared to tightening up sagging barbed each spring. The ice and snow drifts just wreak havoc. Keep plenty of grass in front of them and keep the fence good and hot and they stay away from it. Of course, all mine are trained to a hot (10kv or more) fence early and have quite a respect for it. Best o luck
