Bale Buster Justification

I have a neighbor that feeds ground hay across his cultivated fields most of the winter. Looks like a good way to avoid hauling manure - - but when I looked at used Vermeer balebusters they cost around $ 6,000 to 8,000...

Is there any way to justify that kind of expense or is it just a nice toy to have?

I had a hesston bale grinder that I got real cheap at a farm sale,I didn't care much for it but it did blow the mold out of old hay.I traded it in and about tripled my money though :banana:
I think the vermeer would be a better machine than the hesston,but for what you want to do why not just get a 3pt.bale unroller.I think you can still get them for about a $1,000 new.

I don't know for sure whitch unrollers are the best,mine is old and white and no idea who made it.The ones I saw were a year or so ago at a farm show and I think they were $ 1,000 or $ 1,100..I'll check into them and get back to you.

There are some on ebay for under a $1,000 new The worksaver one looks ok,just go to ebay and do a search for bale unroller
