Here are some picture of a few of my cows and their spring cavles. (feb-mar) Tell me what you think, and don't hold back. I have pretty thick skin.

#49, probably my favorite bull calf. 9/16 Gelb, 7/16 Angus

#88, nuther bull calf. some of the calves are just getting rid of the winter coat, he is one of them. Makes him look a little rough, but he is out of a first calf heifer. 1/2 gelb, 1/2 angus

#85, half brother to 88, not quite the growth, same % as 88

#87, heifer calf out of a first calf heifer. Picture doesn't do her justice in my opinion. 1/2 gelb, 1/2 angus

#64, same % as 87, nuther heifer calf

#69, nuther 50/50 heifer calf. I like this one, she poses really nice.

#74, nuther 50/50 heifer calf

#62, nuther 50/50 heifer calf

#89, nuther 50/50 heifer calf. She isn't quite filling out like the others

#70, NOT all black!! She is 1/2 gelb, 1/4 Red Angus, 1/4 angus. Her dam is a good one

One of my Balancer bulls, he was getting ready to sniff a little you know what.

#70, 1/2 gelb 1/2 red angus

#74, 1/2 gelb, 1/2 angus

#49, dam to the first calf posted. 5/8 gelb, 3/8 angus 8 years old. She has been a good one for me.

#47, same % as 49, same age, and half sister to her as well.

#88, nuther 50/50. Picture is not becoming of her, but she is a first calf heifer, dam to #88 above. Boo Boo daughter out of a 100% angus cow.

those are some goodlooking balancer bulls heifers an cows.bet theyll look slick when their winter hair slicks off.you cant beat nice looking cows.

Your calves got some nice growth on them already. They will get slick fast on that lush grass.

Looks like 49 is a good herd sire prospect.

I am curious as to why you consider #49 your favorite calf this year, and what you like or dislike about #88. The pictures are taken from too high above them, therefore they do not show their phenotype traits as well as they would if you would have had the camera at your belt buckle level while standing on the ground.

Phenotype is important when selecting breeding stock, but Genotype is critical as well, and #88 has hindquarter thickness and substance enough to justify investigating the pedigree, and determining the DAM'S input genetically in the production of this #88 calf. It is difficult to see the overall width of the calf from a front view, but the stifle and gaskins of the calf are thick enough to warrant a second or third look!

Truthfully, I had been going back and forth between the two as to which one I like more. Main difference to me, is 88 is a little coarse through his shoulders. Hard to tell from the pictures, but both are similar in thickness, but 49 gives up a little bit in length. I will re-evaluate at weaning, but those two are by far the best bull calves on the farm this year.
