Now that we're feeding alot of bailed hay (80#ers) we've been collecting alot of twine...I was wondering if anybody has come up with a practical use for the stuff. I wraped Susie's anniversary present with it and thought that I was pretty cleaver; she wasn't impressed. Thought about brading it but I'm not ready for the nursing home just yet...ideas?

well, you could get the treated (green) sisal and the untreated (yellowy) and learn macrame - work out a pattern with those colors or something. I see plant holders in your future... ;-)

Maybe you could braid and sell belts, horse tack, lingerie, the list goes on and on.... :)
 
Makes an excellent fire excellerant. The net we use in ditches with a layer of rock on it for erosion control

Hmmmmmm --- using sisal twine to make some of those butt floss thongs & such seems like a good idea. I bet Medic might already be, or could easily become, somewhat of an expert on such matters. :oops:

The only use I've ever had for sisal or poly is as a fire starter aid and also to tie up stacks of newpaper for the recycling bin. Plus one year I used poly to do some quick "southern engineering" repair work to hold a bale ring together after the cows and good old rust broke it down. Not nearly as useful as the baling wire from the old days.
 
Well, it comes in pretty handy if your tarp is almost as big as your hay stack (thus eliminating tarp straps). You can thread it through the grommets and the string on the bottom bales to create kind of a 'running stitch' tie-down pattern, it also comes in pretty handy to anchor the feeders to the end fence posts up at the horse-barn, thus thwarting horses that like to rub on the feeders and move them down the fence line (I don't recommend the florescent orange for this use - looks kinda tacky), they can also be used to bundle irrigation tubes, etc into neat, easier to handle packages, suspend fly traps from cross members under sheds (again, the neutral looks better), you are pretty much limited only by your imagination! ;-) As Dun already mentioned, they make excellent fire accelerants!!
 
add a cattle panel to some of that twine and you gotta gate :D
