Bahia going to seed

Help Support CattleToday:

I think the nutrient loss is more from the maturity of the plant than the time of year.
I am cutting some now that is still sort of tinder and lush but it only had about 6 weeks growth in it. If you let it get over grown and tough I would think the nutrients will be down. Once the seed head turns brown and dries up most of the seed will fall off before you can get it in the bailer. Old dried out Bahiagrass is hard to cut too. You will sure have to drop a gear once it gets tough.
The Bahiagrass I am cutting now I hope will make another cutting by the first of October when it gets too cool.

Good points Alabama, my cows and horses love to graze on the sees heads of Bahia and will eat them before they actually eat the stem of the plant - any idea of the protein content of Bahia grass seed?
