My first thought is to try pushing it rather than pulling? From the skinny side on the opposite end?

Is there a key notch that has to line up? Turn it as you are pulling/pushing to line it up?

I would bet the ratchet thing inside the housing is bent. See if you can unscrew the base where your finger is on the button and see what is hanging up. Then strip the guts out of it or get a new A.I. gun. What is the purpose of the auto lock?
