Just wondering if anyone is planning on going to Bendigo? I missed out this year but have been offered a couple jobs for next. Am also considering taking my cow and calf along.
I'd love to go, but is it worth the trip??!

Worth the trip and the money, as far as I have heard. I missed it too but might be there next year. Apparently it ws a good show, nice and laid back.

Completely off topic, we got rain yesterday :D 23 mL and looking like more. I stepped in a puddle! Can't remember the last time I did that.

I would, except it's to bloody far :P

It'd be good to see that there is more than one CT member going to the same show!

Well guys, we should all make an effort to get there!

Keren, we had an inch on Saturday night in the Adelaide Hills...

I was at a 21st further north and my friend and I got flooded out in our swag- yuk!! And I can safely say that's never happened to me before!

How bout I meet ya's half way and try and get to Sydney royal!

How's that calf that you posted pics of recently going Carla??

Bendigos about 1600ks (1,000 miles) from our place. Brisbanes a drag these days and that is only 300 ks from here. Bendigo was a good show apparently. The Beef Spectacular is on in Dubbo NSW in March that should be good too.A bit more reachable for all exhibitors.

Dubbo might be a bit more reachable for you guys!! For us South Aussies, it's a bit of a hike just for a show. Are you planning on going Colin?

Sounds good Bek! I'll definitely be at Sydney seeing as Shorties are feature breed... just found out the other day we've got Melbourne too!

Calf is going really well. Went and visited today after my FINAL EXAM. New cow and calf also arrived today. I have to say, I like the calf I bred a LOT better than the one I've bought... though I didn't buy that package for the calf.
My little girl's got quite an attitude and thinks she's pretty good, running round showing off with the other babies... so cute!!

I will post pics of the new girls when I get the chance to take some.

No I won't be going to Dubbo. Might just show at few shows within 200/300ks. I usually show in areas that I can sell my South Devons and Brahmans. I don't go to Sydney because no one will travel 800+ ks to have a look at what I've got. Sydney often just has townies looking where as Brisbane has more cattle people attend and many more from areas that I'm likely to show in or sell. Brisbane is much more affordable as far as entry fees and access goes. Getting a little tired of the show scene after 30+ years. I prepare all our cattle, plus getting older and pushing a breed (SD) that no one cares much about in our country. Don't get me wrong showing definately has a place in promotion of livestock.
Colin.

30 years is a long run Colin..

I'll definitely be at Brissie...

And Sydney maybe, just gotta find someone to go with.....

And it is true, the SD's aren't as popular as the Brahmans, Angus, Charolais etc....In comparison to you I'm only new to showing, and loving it, as that is basically as close as I get to having my own cattle at the moment.

An inch! That's not fair!

Yeah Dubbo not so reachable. I would go though if I had anyone to work for. The studs I am with wouldn't be keen I don't think.

I will definately be at Sydney. Don't know how the schedule is yet but usually the goats are first week with the steers. So I will probably be there week 1 with Boers and week 2 with Squares and possibly Shorties. Long show!

Colin, I absolutely know what you mean with Sydney. The prices are crazy. Melbourne cost us $1000 a head and Sydney is worse. The townies are bad there. Canberra is good in that regard. I sympathise with you about trying to promote a breed that no one will recognise. We have sort of been doing that on a small scale, around here we are just starting to show some of the older breeders that MGs are decent cattle.

Oh its raining again :)

Yeah that's smart thinkin'.

I can't remember what we did this year, but all the Dexter's were together, all the Lowlines were together, and the Galloways & Mini Greys. Either way there was HEAPS of room!

Not sure if it's like that down there.

Yeah the small breeds are usually all together, while the rest of us are cramped!! Sucks to be in the Red Angus mob though... Drayton Park always brings bout 30 which are crammed into 2 rows.

Eek! talk about a tight squeeze!

That's like what happens with the Charolais up here...219 exhibits this year! im pretty sure to fit them all they got the whole front of the sheds. and it was still a tight squeeze...

Bek could never work out why in Brisbane which has a two storey cattle shed, why the British breed cattle have always been put on the bottom floor which is really hot. The tropical breeds are on the top floor which is the coolest and best ventilated. I suspect that it comes from the old days when Herefords reigned supreme and all the toffee nosed Hereford breeders could not walk up the ramp or the stairs. Things have changed now Herefords are one of the smallest numbered breeds shown now.
