My Asparagus is getting really thick in the rows. Should the plants be thinned out after a few years just to keep it from getting so thick?

I love asparagus. Tried to grow it once. Didn't work out too well. I think it likes the cooler climes.

You got a good patch there. From what I've seen, most of the time as the patch matures plants start to die off and need to be replaced. I would let the patch go as long as it's productive. You must do a good job with weeds and proper care. What do you use for fertilizer?

I have been mulching with composted manure and also using 12-12-12 every couple of weeks, not too much each time.

You don't have to replant it every year? I love the stuff, just never tried growing it.
