Anyone got any tips on keeping armadillos out of the garden, other than being awake and there to shoot them when they come in to dig? Have killed 11 the last 3 nights but am needing some sleep. Thanks
 
Next year plant your garden in the median of a busy 4 lane highway and let the 18 wheelers do the work for you! :D

Seriously, I have no idea what would keep the little armored varmints out of your veggie patch. I'm glad we don't have a huge population up my way yet.
 
Live trap, panty hose with a fist sized ball of earthworm for bait. Shoot, toss, repeat
 
Hooknline, Thanks for the advice. I baited the trap about dark and went out and there were two armadillos laying in the trap asleep like a couple of hogs. Just got through with the shoot and toss and hopefully will get to repeat. I took the 22 rifle with me on the 4 wheeler today when I was checking cows and killed 12 more of the varmints. This drought has them searching for someplace soft enough to dig and it seems to be under cowpiles. Since all the pasture is eat into the ground, they are easily seen. I guess there is such an over population that they must really be hungry. Thanks again and hope there is no damage from the hurricane for you and yours.
 
Glad you're getting them. I despise the things. Between gopher turtles and dillos one field looks like wwII practice field.
We're just now getting some really heavy rain and winds haven't got above 15 mph yet
 
Cant stand those critters either.. my blue heeler cornered one in our front flower bed a few months back. I tried to pull it out by the tail.. but cant hardly do it. Even if you do grab em up by the tail, they curl up into a ball so tight. So.. only thing left to do was to fill it full of .22 lead. Gave it to the heeler to play with after that... Dillo toss was the game .. :lol2:

Don't ever try to shoot one with a bow and a broad head. I tried it once. Hit the darn thing and the arrow bounced off at around a 45 degree angle and I lost an 30 dollar set up. Never did find it. Now I just use Lead too
 
Greybeard do you have alot of coyotes. Seems like coyotes like to eat armadillos around here. Been finding quite a few
dead ones the last year or so. They both make good targets.

Yes--loads of coyotes--and feral hogs, but I don't know if the hogs make any difference, tho I know they are omnivorous and will eat anything they can.
