Armadillos

Will a body hold trap catch/ kill armadillos ? Have 3-4 holes / burrows in my pastures . Can I put a trap at the entrance and catch a dillo ? I have sat for hours early and late and driven through at night without seeing them .

Not sure what I've got but I think it's the one just smaller than that . Spring on both sides . It said coons and groundhogs. Trying it out in my barn where I have seen several groundhogs.

I have caught them in live traps. Use boards in a V shape to direct them into the cage. They have poor eye site

Haven’t tried the boards but no luck with live traps . Have dug out the entrance to their hole and placed the trap so they had to go in . No catch.

Good luck! We used to have them destroying the yard around the house and I'd randomly pic 'em off with a .22 but don't see as many now that the pups are on guard duty.

I found that the boards are needed. Like I said they have poor eye sight. Also found they have many holes and always stay close to one for emergency purposes so they may not be in a hole at certain times when you think they may be

We have them down here, too, @coachg . I put up with them because they eat the heck out of fire ants. You can see a little hill getting started one day, and the next day, they have dug it up overnight and those fire ants are gone.

Thought I might catch a groundhog at the barn before I try the armadillo holes . Prayed I didn’t catch some stray cat but caught a cotton tail rabbit instead . Hated it and never thought about a rabbit going under the barn . But the trap did work !

The holes can be aggravating for sure, but as long as the holes in my pasture are where ant hills were, I am fine. From time to time people have brought up even importing pangolins from south America, or anteaters from Africa. But usually bringing in species from other parts of the world, causes more harm than good. I can see where people that don't have a fire ant problem but do have armadillos, can view them as pests.

Got lots of ant hills but our armadillos seem to prefer grubs . Never seen an ant hill dug into

You are right about that. However, they will do the same thing to a dog.

A lot of states do not allow them for a dry land set because of the dog problem.

Armadillos are threatened. You don't want them to have to be put on the endangered list, so it is better to keep them around to eat the ants, especially the fire ants.

I was listening to a national morning radio show once and it was reporting on a man who was arrested for involuntary manslaughter for shooting his mother in law. Apparently he shot an armadillo with a 9mm. It ricocheted off and struck his mother in law.
