Are you guilty of ordering a part from a equipment dealer with out asking the price. I am I ordered some parts for the air conditioner for my tractor. O-rings about 5/16 in diameter were five dollars each. Where you could by the complete set from any auto supply store that had all sizes in it for less than ten dollars. In the future I will ask. This is when you phone the order in.

I always ask how much is it. A few weeks ago I needed a bucket of hyd fluid and had to stop at the dealer for another part and said I need a bucket of cheap fluid, he said that blue one over there is only 80 bucks. I laughed and told him no thank you ill go get the 23 dollar a bucket stuff down the road. I picked up 2 seals for the lift arms last Friday . 11.00 each and he sold me the wrong ones , today I went to exchange them and the ones I need were 22.00 each exactly the same just bigger diameter. when he told me the difference I said ill pay that but I need to know who to give the invoice to for my tractor being down all weekend because YOU didn't not give me the right part. Needless to say he said I didn't owe anything.
Depends on how quick I need it and if I am ordering other parts along with it. Bought a slug of parts to rebuild the gearbox on my BH 406 brush cutter last week. Mechanic also wanted to replace the main bottom nut holding the stump pan. Knew it would be pricey with left hand threads on a 2" nut, ended up being $26. 2nd day air freight was very reasonable at $20. I always check price before I pay, and have at times said no way at parts counter. Having some of every brand, New Holland is by far the most ridiculous for price, even for parts they still manufacture for current models. Belarus is cheapest and I try to source via the Net straight from Ukraine.

No but I walked into the JD Dealer the other day and told them I needed a new positive cable for the tractor battery. They kindly sold me one for a cool $120.......talking about just about soiling your laundry.

Depends what it is and how bad I need it. If its something I can source elsewhere (fluid, filters, seal, bearing, etc) then I will ask the price and shop around if need be. If its something that can only get sourced from the dealer (gear, shaft, etc) then I just buy it without asking. And if its during planting, hay, or harvest season then it don't matter just get it to me asap. Downtime and weather can cost way more than that overpriced part you just bought.
It kills me to here stories like this but its the way of the world I guess.
The brand name tractor/implement dealers push their product, although the product 99% of the time is manufactured by, Weasler, Cross Mfg, Kondex Corp, Osmundson, Gates, Weatfethead and etc.
The independent guys know this and will sell the exact same part for a lot less money but people continue to go back to the dealer for OEM replacement and pay double for and identical product with the Green,Red,Blue paint.
The big boys get bigger and the independent goes broke although the independent can sell the same product for half the price
