Anyone familiar with Ar Su Lu Kool? Anyone ever used him? What do you think of him?

I believe Kool is a TH carrier. Don't use him on a doublestuff, vegas, anything with Deerpark Improver, bla bla bla.
I've seen several calves out of him. All tight flanked and gutless.

Why did you pick Kool?

Jay, look at this bull.

This is Bad Moon Rising. I really like him. I've really thought of using him and The Bookie both. But I need to use up some of whats in my tank now before I buy more.

I've got some Warhorse in the tank. Saving it for a rainy day.
I like those 2 warhorse sons. They should do what I'm after and save me from having to use the warhorse. ;-)

Warhorse throws some real nice calves out of hereford cows.

Kool is a TH carrier. I've got him listed in my semex issue. I'm not sure why I picked him, cert. I think I'm just curious what others think about him. I do like the looks of Bad Moon Rising, but it seems he might be a little high flanked too? Looking through the magazine, The Bookie's got a nice look to him... It doesn't tell whether he's TH positive or negative though. How about Sin City? He's TH free. Heard anything else about him? I just can't seem to find his boys in the picture.

As I was previewing my image, I saw your post, cowboy. I checked the book and I really like the look of Below Zero. Anyone have any experience with him?
edit: Just checked his pedigree and he's got Ar Su Lu Kool in him...not sure if he's TH free or negative, though.

I haven't got anything on Warhorse. Got some pictures of him?

Some of the Deerpark Improver line is TH free so don't be completely scared off if you see the name. Deerpark Improver 52 was TH free the last time I looked, and he's got some great offspring floating around. Saskvalley has Huberdale MasterCharge blood in their herd, which traces back to DI52.

I don't care for the bulls you posted, but I also go for the little more traditional animals with deeper ribs and shorter legs. They work a little better in my cold northern climate.

Edit: I kinda like that white bull though. Not quite masculine enough in neck area, but white bulls often aren't. I see someone just posted a large pic of a bull a couple message above this one, and I think he looks pretty fair, if a little showy and short of neck.

I hope EVERYONE is making sure they DO NOT use any TH carrier bulls. I realize that if your cow is clean, the calf won't be affected by this defect - but we need to nip this in the bud & eliminate it from the beef industry. Breeding to a carrier is playing a crap shoot. You never know when it will bite you. Ban TH bulls!!! from your breeding list.

Ar Su Lu Kool is TH positive......looking through the Genetic Horizions Semen catalog it seems about 89% of the Short Horn bulls they list are TH Positive. Also funny thing is the biggest part of those being TH Negative are all white (Sin City, Okie Dokie, notorious and Casper).

Funny is all of the White Short Horn bulls they have listed are TH Negative except Kaboom and he is not listed either way. Surely this is just a coincidence?

Agreed Jeanne. I was VERY disappointed when the Shorthorn Associations caved in to TH-positive bull owners and didn't force ID of TH carriers on their registration papers. I think anything thats TH positive should be removed from the closed (and appendix) regstries completely.

According to the list of TH carriers Kool 1007 (4037294) is the carrier. If all in the Ar Su Lu Kool line are effected I dont Know. Check http://www.shorthorn.org for the list of tested animals.
I knew Kool was a carrier. I'm wondering if anyone knows about Bookie and Below Zero?

Bookie is not on the list but Below Zero (4066499) is listed as a carrier.

I agree with Jeane. I wouldn't buy a Shorthorn bull for 30 commercial cows unless his sire and dam were both certified TH free or he was certified free. Certainly nobody needs to purchase semen from a known TH positive bull no matter how otherwise desirable he might be. That may mean some lines of cattle disappear; but that is a small price to pay to end this NOW without increasing the number of carriers out there.

I will ask a question - - -(who knows? Maybe MORE than - A question when I get started!!!!) - - as a matter fact - -the SAME question as has been alluded to in the past; Are we in the BUSINESS of selecting breeding seedstock for the production of BEEF, - OR are we advertising and bragging about how adept we are at - WASHING, AIR BLOWING, BRUSHING, PAINTING, CLIPPING, CUTTING, COMBING, TRIMMING, PULLING HAIR - - applying MOUSSE, GEL, GLUE, and - - training HAIR to travel North by Northeast instead of South, - covering faults in our animals and actually LYING and being DISHONEST about the BEEF(??) animals we are - - - Producing(?) and Breeding(?) and attempting to SELL(?) to potential breeders - to the point where the animals look as if they just emerged from a HO-LEE-WOOD BEAUTY SA-LON" looking like a FRILLY-DILLY - FOP! - -making legs look bigger than they really are? - making hindquarters appear deeper and thicker than they really are? - making tail heads appear as if the animal just left Cape Canaveral tied onto the end of a launch vehicle- in short, playing "games" to the extent that nobody knows what the heck that animal's phenotype REALLY is, - and a fairly good puff of wind would destroy it's entire house of cards into a heap of hair?? Is this what all the articles and books and College Beef Production classes is all about?? The entire "Show Scene" puts a thick covering of FROST on my - - - sense of legitimate and true-meaning - BEEF PRODUCTION!!

DON'T GET ME STARTED!

Have I opened up Pandora's box yet???
