I wanting to purchase a new trailer, wondering if the tilt bed is way to go. Ill use it to haul skidsteer occasionally, round bales, miscellaneous equipment. The one I have my eye on is 26' (8' stationary and 18' tilt). Brand is Midsota, anyone have any opinions on Midsota brand? Thanks

I just posted pics of a trailer similar to what you describe but with the big flip over ramps in another thread. The 102" width with heavy drive over fenders is great. I looked at tilt decks but was talked out it. I'm not opposed to them though and knowing the fella that said don't buy a tilt deck, we'll he most likely caused his own issues.20260113_155628.jpg

Personally I like a full deckover vs fenders, makes it much easier to load stuff.

I've got a full deckover hydraulic tilt deck and if somebody wanted it I'd sell it in a heartbeat and replace it with a deckover with flip over ramps. The tilt isn't as great or useful as I thought it would be.

Backing the skidsteer on a deckover is my hold up on that style. The one im looking at is gravity tilt.

Loading a skid steer on my deckover tilt deck wasn't much fun at first. You get used to it.

Loading on a deckover with dovetail and flip over ramps is no biggy, even my wife and 8yo boy do it.

I looked pretty serious at one awhile back and decided against it. I often times load attachments on then the skid steer so would have to strap it all down to then tilt it. To me it is easier to load it all then strap down. Also was not to crazy about the extra weight of the double frame and seems the battery is always needing charged on my hydraulic dove trailer. I prefer stand up ramps and a flip up skeleton dovetail if i have my choice. I agree a deckover is by far the more useful design. Only reason I would consider a tilt with fenders is if hauling the skidsteer was 95% of what I used it for.

All that being said another member here bought a tilt deck last year and seems pretty happy with it. Maybe he will chime in in the a.m.

Those are my two complaints. With the double frame my 22' trailer is 6400lb empty, which is substantially heavier than a ramp trailer.

And it never fails the battery is dead when you need it the most. I have a set of hoses in the toolbox so I can tilt it with a tractor or skid steer if needed. Those hoses have saved my butt a few times.

Another good deal with a flip up ramp trailer is most of them come with the bars to pin the ramps in the upright position. Makes hauling hay easier. The bad thing about flip up ramps is you have to leave room to flip them over. When I load the tractor with the bale unroller on the back I have to raise the loader and drive to the front of the 25' deck over get out flip the ramps over then back the tractor up. Kind of a pain if your alone. A shredder would be the same deal.

Loading a skidsteer on the trailer pictured is breeze since so low and has the mega ramps.

Guilty as charged.

I bought a 24' PJ deckover with the full tilt last year, it was used and in my price range so here we are. I really like it for hauling a tracked skid loader if you're not taking any additional attachments (or a fuel tank) with you, a stationary deck up front would be nice for hauling them along at the same time. Otherwise, you've got to load them first and secure before tilting the deck up for loading skid loader. I put a winch up in the gooseneck area thinking it would be the bee's knees for winching up broken down farm trucks but thankfully haven't used it yet. The extra weight of the double frame is a concern, and the maintenance of an electric over hydraulic system is worth considering. On the plus side, it scoots your axles up closer to the front, so it handles more like a 20' trailer than a 24'. Clearance under the rear end is great, you've got to really try to bottom it out. I added a remote control for the hydraulic tilt, so that I can tilt the trailer back level without getting out of the cab of the track loader on the slant. I also replaced the floor with rough sawn white oak so it has a little more traction, treated pine when wet on that incline can make you pucker a bit. We have a 32' 12 ton with the hydraulic tail as well, not sure I'd want the tilt as my only trailer.

All in all, I like the trailer and it serves my purpose. That being said, if I were to replace it with a new trailer tomorrow - it would most likely be a standard deckover with the full width (Mega, Monster, etc) ramps.
