We're going there soon and was looking for recommendations on great places to eat.

I live a good three hours from there but supposedly there's a really good seafood restaurant called Captain George's. My wife has been bugging me to take her there for about five years now. I hate seafood.

If you decide to go to the joint, please stop by here and take my wife with you. You can bring her back if you wish.

Sorry, cfpinz, but we're flying in... otherwise we'd be glad to take her along!! Thanks for the recommendation... I'll look up Captain George's and let you know if its "all that and a bag of chips"...haha.

Captain Georges does have an excellent reputation for Seafood. they feature an extensive seafood buffet that is supposed to be fabulous. all the folks in my office rave over it.

Fortunately I am a beef eater, so I have never tried it.

Anheiser Bush has a brewery there and I highly reccomend the beer.

OK guys... we went to Captain Georges.... OH MY GOSH!!!!
First off...the line out front was a bit intimidating but the key is to take "5 or more" people with you as you then get to move to the right, into a line thats not so long. To be seated only took us 10-15 minutes (we were a party of 5) although I'm sure it took that long line of people a lot longer!

When we went inside the dining room it reminded us of a cruise ship as there were different levels of seating/low ceiling/dim lights/nicely dressed wait staff. The best part though was the buffet!! They have what looks like 2 old ships at opposite angles that are the buffet lines. Here's some of what was there...

Clam Chowder
She Crab Soup (excellent!!!)
Crab cakes on little foil crab "shells"
Steamed Oysters, Fried Oysters
Boiled Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp
Calimari
Crab Legs
Poached Salmon
All kinds of Fish

Desserts:
Blackberry/Apple/Peach Cobblers
Flan
Carrot Cake
Chocolate Cake
Rice Pudding
Banana Dessert

They do serve alcohol...I had a "Bushwacker" and my girls had virgin Pina Coladas.

There was so.... much more... I can't even tell you. But if you like seafood THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!!! Dinner was (I think) $29.95 per person which is a little expensive but for an "all you can eat" type thing....I thought it was fair. The place was PACKED so we had no doubt everything was fresh, fresh, fresh!!

p.s. Pdfangus...my husband also had Prime Rib...said it was EXCELLENT. (He eats it with horseradish and was in HEAVEN).
Being from near St. Louis, we have Anheiser Busch here as well and was right at home among all the brewery logos and such.

Mr. and Mrs. Wisteria do live the high life, don't they. :D I don't do "all you can eat" because I don't eat that much anymore. At one time I could have put that restaurant into bankruptcy.

Do you know how long its been since I've had a meal over $25??? Much less pay for one for my girls!!! But, we were on vacation, last night in town and honestly didn't know it was THAT expensive!! However if you have a special occasion, I have to say its WORTH EVERY DIME!! Now we get to eat hot dogs for the next five weeks... :roll:

I hate to bust yalls bubbles but 25.00 for a good meal is not considered expensive any more. 25.00 for a high quality all you can eat seafood buffet is not bad.

Ruths Crist steakhouse is advertising a special now where 2 can dine for 89.00. that is pretty much a deal at Ruths Crist.

You can hardly get a burger and frys for less than 5.00 in these parts anymore. A bottle of belly wash, be it soda or plain water is about 1.49.

Me.....never eaten at any of the above except the hamburger joints, and can't afford that any more.
We do eat breakfasts out on Saturday mornings and for the wife and I it is usually 18.00 counting the tip.

Well, now y'all have me wanting to choke up that $29.95 meal so I can enjoy it a second time and get my money's worth!!!

All kidding aside... we live in a small town and there's ONE restaurant that has food priced in the twenty's... its not doing so well. But, I do believe in splurging now and then so for those of you that are close enough to go, it really is worth it.

well all I can say is I have stood in line at a Wendys behind a family of four that paid 37 bucks and change for lunch for a family of four.

I don't do it any more but I have entertained customers in seven states and even ten years ago a dinner for 25.00 was not uncommon.

Yep, and if I had another one to rub together with it I'd be in business!

Had lunch at the choke and puke at the market on Monday, 6 bucks and change! Was under $5 last year. Plus the burgers and fries used to be good.
