na wanted to see if any of yall used it before I bought it.. If no one has I will probably end up buying a bottle and seeing how it does?
 
Cheap goldfish will work, but they die easily. You can use baby Koi if you have a big enough tank, you just have to be careful not to get too many, or too big of a fish for your tank, or you will never cycle out the ammonia. Keep adding fish slowly until the algae is controlled. They wont keep the water clear, but they will keep the algae from getting out of hand. There is a lot of good info here.

thanks triple I have one place that I have 2 130 gallon troughs that I have to haul water too which is a pain in the butt in itself but scrubbing the algae and draining really sucks
 
I had a lady give me a bunch of baby koi about 4" long. They were red and white, some kind of crossbreed that apparantly isn't desireable. I have dipped them up and moved them 2 or 3 times, they are tough. They make it fine through the winters around here. They are nothing but a fancy carp.

Haven't used this product but have used straight copper sulfate which is the active ingredient in this products. It does work and you can probably buy it a lot cheaper than this.
 
TB, please expound on this topic.

How do you apply copper sulfate? Is it in power form? Do you just dump some in occasionally? Is it safe for cattle?
 
I used gold fish in my tanks for years. I have 6 tanks on my place and it seems like I have to buy more goldfish for about 3 or 4 tanks every spring. On a hot summer day the herd will empty a 200 gallon tank a couple times a day. Gold fish don't do well without water. I should the goldfish are more mosquito lava than algea.
 
What about a 150 gallon tank that you are constantly adding county water to. Will they survive the chlorine etc in the water?
 
I remember from my days topical fish that the chlorine be gone in 24hrs, so they should be fine with partial fills. It's a PH change they can't handle. Such as going from a slimy algae filled tank to a sparkling clean tank.

TT your feed store should be able to get it for you from the feed mill they get their feed from. It's in granular form, bright blue in color. Just broadcast it across the surface of the pond. Don't do over about 25% of the surface area at any one time in order not to deplete too much oxygen from the water at one time. Will last the entire season but will most likely have to do it again next year.
 
Thanks all for the replys and information... I will ask if they have that at my store. try one trough with the chemicals and one with fish if i can find the koi

:nod: :nod: :nod: , I have had it happen twice in the past years. I buy 10 gold fish for a dollar, so the are pretty small. This spring the herd drank a tank very close to dry, but there was no fish left. Might have been crows, but at least an 1/2 inch of water left .... So I'm thinking the cows sucked them up. Another dollar to the fish store and check the tank more often.
