I enjoy Christmas, but loathe the horrid music I have to tolerate in every public place, as well as the commercialization of it as well.
Meanwhile I sure got a kick out of my parents this year. I got back from my yearly little holiday to the big city on Dec 20, and when I got home my dad declared "We don't want to do any gifts this year". Thankfully I already kinda knew this, but telling me AFTER I go on my yearly 'shopping' trip???
For the last several years, our family has done the 'white elephant' mean santa thing where we each just bring one wrapped gag gift--no 'real gifts for adults, since we all have way more crap than we can ever use already. It's a fun exchange, and no one is allowed to actually purchase a gift--it has to be something you already have laying around, and the next person in line can steal the gift the last person got.

(I gave a rusty ol pair of Burdizzos--one of the nieces that is going thru a divorce ended up with those.
Dunno why, but this year, the nieces decided amongst themselves that they would get each of us adults real gifts. I have a crap load of teen and young adult nieces. Now, we all have a bunch more crap to surreptitiously get rid of in the next few months, as well as feeling bad that we didn't get any of them anything. I'm gonna have a talk with them nieces at Easter and set 'em straight. I don't need or want no dang glass dog that lights up, or a coffee table book on Chevy trucks (I detest my Chevy truck and will never have another GM product as long as I live) or a keychain light from Tractor Supply, or a purple ceramic cow that plays "Jingle Bells" when you pull it's tail.
