Have been running into this problem more and more.

I tried to get more memory for my computor and after calling the manufacture was asked if it would be paid for with a debt or credit card. Can't I pay with a money order? No.

Just lately tried to set up an account with iTunes so my son could download music on his iPod. No problem downloading our CD's, but he wants some different music. Got him a gift card. Could not get past the set up payment on a credit card. Contacted the support and been given the run around. Big waste of a $25.00 gift card.

I don't have nor want a credit card.

Ugh!! It is awful!! I don't have a credit card either and don't want one, and many times I have had my hands tied by what you are experiencing. Often times I borrow my moms or my sisters, and give them the check.

It is handy to have one major credit card, even if you don't use it for anything but emergencies. And they come in handy for that. Car repairs on the road, need gas and have no money or whatever. Ever try to rent a car without one? My husband does not have a card and he has occasion to rent a car on business and it is a runaround. They are a necessary evil sometimes.

This is kinda along the lines of CB's post here. Except for gas cards I only have one credit card now and that's an AMEX. I just paid off all my credit card debt about three months ago and don't plan to do it again. They are robbing folks with their 18% interest which a few years ago would have been against the law.

I don't know how folks get by today.

Do you have a bank debit card? I think most places accept them as quickly as a credit card. The money comes right out of your account, like a check.

I put almost everything on the credit card, then pay it off completely at the end of the month. It has a "rewards" program. I choose a $$ credit to the account for the reward. Last year, I credited $200 to the account when all our vacation expenses hit. Our rural electric coop won't take the credit card and I write a check to the card company, but those are almost the only checks for bills that I write anymore. It sure makes balancing the checkbook easy.

Here I thought the Boss and I were the only ones left without a credit card

Don't see the point in ever having one either, we have the ongoing line of credit and use a VISA debit card that works for everything. :D :D

OK Frankie I got a question. Now if we get a card, is there a user fee if we do not use the card?
I've read the small print on the different card apps. and there is a monthly fee on all of them.
I can understand having one for emergencies, been there, but husband does not want to pay the card company a fee for having a card and not using it.
My in laws had a great card. No balance, no fee. They never used that card. They would get a statement every couple of months. I'm sure that if a charge had been done their phone would have been ringing in just minutes.

TN I have only had one problem with paying with a money order. The persons bank would not accept it. They took it to the post office and they cashed it there since it was a USPS money order.
Cash disappears quicker.
The money orders look like checks.

I have a debit card also. I don't like to use it very often though. The idea that someone might get it and clean out my checking account just scares the hell out of me. I have one credit card that I use and pay off monthly. If the balanced does get away from me its only 9% interest. As for the 18% not being legal a few years ago I'm not sure that is right. I recall getting free credit card offers for many years now with 23% interest.

Having good credit should be important to everyone. Having a credit card helps establish a payment history, good or bad. Managed correctly, a credit card can be very usefull. I would think you can get a credit card through whichever bank you use. And for sure, you should not have to pay a fee to get or keep one whether you use it or not.

Charges and rules will vary according to the bank that issues the card. Since I started charging most things on the credit card, I don't use my debit card. My bank doesn't charge a fee for carrying one around, but you'd need to verify that with them. And if you don't like the rules, call and talk to someone. You might be suprised how agreeable the bank is if you ask them to waive a fee, especially if you're a long time customer and have a good credit history.

We've never had a credit card that charged a monthly fee. Of course, we've only had three bank credit cards, so I'm no expert. I'd bet there's an internet site that will give you a rundown of the best credit cards available. And the worst.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to get a credit card if they're not comfortable with it. Like the credit card, I'm only on the hook for $50 if someone steals my debit card, as long as I notify the bank quickly.

Yep....we have a debit card which the bank charges $1.00 per month for regardless of the number of times you use it. Hardly every carry or write hardcopy checks anymore. I carry one credit card that I've probably had 25 years or more issued by Bank of America. Has a 5.90% APR if you want to carry a balance and occasionally they'll put those "teaser" checks in the statement trying to get you to transfer a balance or loan yourself money at 3.90% APR. Fine print says the fee can be as much as $75 I believe it is. I pay this in full each month "Online" and always set the payment to be made about 3 days prior to the actual due date. Use to have an American Express card and finally thought "why pay somebody a fee to carry their card", so cancelled it. No telling what the annual fee is on those things now day.

Send me a message on what music your son wants, i may have the songs and I can email the files.

How's this for a laugh?
Got in the mail today a letter from my bank telling me that my platinum card was ready. Husbands response was, "Did you get a credit card without telling me?" "No."
Rather interesting. It starts with a 1.90% APR for 6 months then goes right up to 14.9%. Got a $40.00 annual fee attached to it.
Talked with the husband and if we can find the right card for us then we will get one. But we are not in a rush for it.

All I will use is a credit card, we carry no balance. I do a lot of my gift buying online and a credit card is needed. I use a Canadian Tire card, I get money back to spend in their store (they sell far more than tires). In a month with bills, groceries, gas, ranch stuff (I do my best to never pay cash) I can get $50-$100 to spend in store to buy household stuff, pet stuff, even toilet paper. To me it doesn't make sense to not have a credit card that pays you to use it. No annual fee either.
I will not use a debit card, too many card readers in this area. My husband had someone try to get into his account once and now we are paranoid.

Victoria my in-laws do the same. Heck he bought his last car on a credit card and got loads of gift certificates for meals and such...payed it off the next month. :D I still prefer my debit card. At least the thief has to know your pin number to use it and the regular cc is just scan and sign. No ID even required. We periodically change the pin number just to be on the same side.

There are plenty of cards out there that do not charge annual fees, the ones that do are a jip. I can't believe you all don't have at least one credit card, like someone said already they are a necessary evil, and sometimes can work out great with low fixed interest rates, set up on a payment plan, lower than a bank.

The debit card we have thru our bank, is striclty a debit card, it is real handy, I never have gotten charged a fee, when using it at Walmart etc, you can get cash from it, when paying for the purchase, and you are not charged a fee for it. Saves a trip to the bank for a cash withdrawal, I use my debit all the time, I hardly ever write checks for groceries anymore.

I don't have or want a credit card, but the debit card works just the same. Just draws from your checking account. I don't remember the last time I wrote a check. As far as iTunes, you can download for free. I use Limewire. Be aware though,...boys will be boys,....and they can also download pornographic pictures and movies from ANY of the download sites, so stay involved with his internet usage just in case.

A visa debit card should work fine. Lots of people keep a small balance credit card for internet transactions so that if something goes wrong they are safe - although most cards won't hold you to anything over $50 anyway, if you get ripped off and report it ASAP.
