Any idea how this happened?

Hello Experts. My girl Dulce has a cut above her eye and I have no idea how it happened. I’m treating her with molaxicam and keeping it clean with soap and water. (The dried blood isn’t easily coming off so I’m being patient about removing that.) we bought our first hay ring on Friday and I’m thinking maybe my mama cow gave Dulce a push while her head was in the hay ring. One, has this happened to y’all? Two, should I put the black plastic covers back on the bolt ends of the hay ring? Three, any suggestions to keep this from happening again?

If your hay ring has bolts sticking out enough to do damage you need to return the rings.
Put some antibiotic cream on the cut. If you keep cleaning it with soap and water your opening it up every time. Just let it dry and heal.

I can't imagine a hay ring that has bolts sticking out. I'd return one that does, too. Do you have a picture? Please share. If the cut is relatively small, closed, and healing ok then I'd stop doctoring it and leave it alone. Unless this is something crazy huge that i I just can't imagine right now, then also stop the meloxicam. It's a non motion area and healing. Do you really think it's that painful? Meloxicam isn't totally benign and I wouldn't be giving it for a small healing cut above an eye

The head has a good blood supply and cuts heal very well and fast, do as freshman suggested and just leave it to heal.
