Any idea how this happened?

Hello Experts. My girl Dulce has a cut above her eye and I have no idea how it happened. I'm treating her with molaxicam and keeping it clean with soap and water. (The dried blood isn't easily coming off so I'm being patient about removing that.) we bought our first hay ring on Friday and I'm thinking maybe my mama cow gave Dulce a push while her head was in the hay ring. One, has this happened to y'all? Two, should I put the black plastic covers back on the bolt ends of the hay ring? Three, any suggestions to keep this from happening again?

It is more of an abrasion than a cut, already healing well.

I agree. I believe benign neglect would be the best plan moving forward.

Cut your bolts off flush with the nut if they are excessively long, or put an acorn nut in the end.
