waiting on one of our son's first calf heifers to decide the time is right to have her calf. she has looked ready for a week. Her due date was the 7th and I know she's just a couple days over but can't help but be excited.

How long after the due date can they go? We have only AI'd the 3 heifers, everything else is natural service so this is new to us. Last year his other heifer went 10 days early.

Husband getting up in the night to check her, nothing yet but I wish she would hurry up.
I don't usually get too excited about the brood cows but our son's heifers are what he is trying to build a herd with so I'm ancy.
 
He's finally here! A bull calf born on the worst night we have had so far, the 13th. I'm so glad they were in the barn.
He weighed 71#

Three of our kids have 4-H heifers/pets that are due to start calving next week or after. They, also, want to start herds of their own. I'm like you, gertfan. We're looking for about 40 calves out in the pasture and I'm nervous as can be about getting those heifers' babies here.
 
We just had a hefier we were fixing to turn in the low birth weight calve bull on spit out a nice calf. It was a suprise to me but not the first time. I quess I'll watch the others more closely. I'd say it was a result of poor farm management that this was allowed to happen.

The other heifers have seemed to take a special intrest in the calf.
