ok so my post about my market heifer and her pink eye went ok...
the thing is we got 2 other heifers from the same place she did. they both have now come down with pink eye. it got worse then my market heifers. it was swollen shut. i felt like such an animal negleter but she didnt go blind or nothing but sometimes it just so hard to notice that stuff until its gotten that far. is it just a conwinsidence that all 3 heifers from the same place have it or did they arrive here with it. we've prolly have had them for about 2 months or so. the vet said the hold herd could go through it. isnt there any meds for prevention? any suggestions?

I would question if it's pinkeye or not. Could be IBR. If it is it will respond within 12-24 hours to antibiotics injected right into the skin of the eyball. The rule of thumb is that if the white spot in the eye is centered it's pinkeye, if it isn;t, it's IBR.

If I am not mistaken ibr will alot of times affect both eyes as well. Is this correct dun? Sounds just like regular old pinkeye to me although i will admit its a little early in the season for it. To answer your question cattle lover yes they make a pinkeye vaccine. Make sure if you use it you get one that has all three strains of the pinkeye in it.

well its not in both eyes, just one.

im gonna have ta check on that vaccine.

and thanks msscamp for the articles.

The few times we've had to deal with it only one eye was affected. But we jumped on the problem pronto and it never showed in the other eye.
