Another gooseneck question

Have had problems with my gooseneck jack coming out of gear. It's getting worse.Have to keep stopping and driving the end of the input shaft in from the far side of the jack.
Suspect dirt in the works as top cover was lost off it.

Trailer is a Sundowner 18' livestock model.

I agree. A pin, clip, snap ring or something similar that keeps the handle shaft from sliding in or out of the jack housing is missing.

I tried in my mind to figure out what he was talking about and hated to ask another question. Have you tried some penetrating oil yet with no top cover and dirt in there?
