This time it involves my oldest grandson. Don't know all the facts just yet but he got it caught between a bush hog and a trailer. They say they can't save the end that's off but he's in surgery now to figure out if they can save the rest. If ya got a prayer he would appreciate it.

Not to sound uncaring but he'll be fine if he lets himself be fine. I have about a quarter inch of my middle finger and just shy of an inch of my index finger. I have bad reactions to pain meds as well so I went without.
The worst part will be the phantom pains. It took me a couple of years to get to where I didn't spill coffee on myself as I always held a cup with those fingers. I could also scratch an itch with an imaginary finger and it would go away as if I'd actually scratched it. :help:
He might be a bit young to use this one but my favorite response when people ask me how I lost them is to get real serious and tell them that I tickled Lorena Bobbit.
My kids were eight or nine before they figured out how I really lost them. Every time they were doing something dangerous I'd tell them, "be careful... that's how I lost my fingers" and they'd be much more careful with whatever they were doing. I had to come clean when the arguements started about how I really lost them and they both had four or five stories they were convinced were the real deal.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts.

CP, I thought it was you that had lost a couple digits. This kid is 21 and grew up pretty tough of his own choosing, so I'm really not worried about his mental state. He was on Facebook earlier while in the ER posting and trying to laugh it off. I'll be sure and tell him about your post.

Ouch!! Good luck to him!!

CP--you didn't tell us how you really lost those fingers...........

I had a brother-in-law (I no longer claim him) that cut one thumb off in a tablesaw and after they got it mostly healed, they opted to remove one of his toes and graft it on where his thumb was. I always told people when they first met him, that "You just shook hands with his foot".

(It's a pretty common procedure...type the following into google:
"a toe to replace a thumb"

An old man (at the time) that married my mother only had a little finger and a thumb on his right hand. He lost the others in a feed mill accident when he was in his teens. Never seemed to bother him much, but it felt strange shaking hands with him.

I hate to see this type of thing happen. Scary. Really glad it was not worse. My heart goes out to the entire family.

Oh, bless his heart! Sending prayers.

We had friends from out of state visiting last fall and one of them wanted to shoot my husbands' crossbow. This man was in the military and he's an attorney so he's not a complete idiot - and yet he blew off the end of his thumb, actually saw it through the scope & STILL pulled the trigger. As small as our town is we have an amazing orthopedic surgeon & was able to save the majority of his thumb.

A good friend of my son in law got his foot in a grain auger, and was in a good enough mood to text my son in law. "I have four less toenails to clip" from the er. I don't think I'm that tough...

Prayers for a fast recovery. The boss lost his thumb in a head gate we were palpating at the time he said take me to the hospital I said not until I find your thumb. Had a heck of a time finding it finally did it was stuck on the top of the head gate. Grabbed it and put it into an AI glove and headed to the hospital. They were not able to put it back on but did use some of it for the flap over the stump.

Several years ago I was drilling some holes with a old Ford 8n and a danhauser. The roll pin had broke where the pto shaft goes on the augur head. I had repaired it with a 20 penny nail. My son was spotting the auger. The augur was at full depth and he went to kick the dirt away from the hole. The nail caught on the cuff of his jeans. Pulled his leg up and around the pto shaft then ripped his jeans off. It bogged down and killed the engine on the old tractor. His legs were badly bruised but he was ok. If it had been a more powerful tractor it probably would have split him in two. I made several mistakes that day. And got very lucky. Scared the shyt out off me. It turns my stomach to think about it today.
