I think it would be cool if there were a few Australian beef producers on CT. Anyone with a brain knows all we get in pics is show cattle. However we can all read about the Australian cattle industry. The majority of Australian cattle are grass feed to a certain point, boned and ground for commercial grinding meat. Cattle are considerably older then the fed beef of the US. [almost all US calves will go to a feedlots] Japan will buy young cattle from Australia and finish them the way they like. Australia will produce high quality beef for domestic use and for export. The majority of their beef is commercial grinding meat. It's the way they do it, raise it as inexpensively as possible for the grinding market.
Nothing wrong with that. it works.
The only reason I bring it up is to defend the US [and Canada's] beef industry.
There's a couple 3 Aussie's on CT that are in constant criticism of US cattle. Why? pride maybe, Ignorance? More likely just a little growing up will work.
Anyway the US cattle industry works, We supply the world with breeding stock. And readily share technology with everybody.
I think Australians are great and Australia a must to visit.

As a guy who doesn't post much anymore, just lurks a lot, I agree (to me) it seems colin started the mess a while ago and a couple of Aussies jumped to his defense... and so started World War III. I'm also one who would like to see some cattle from down under without ribbons or weight from added feed. As mentioned someone from a "3rd world country" has some great looking cattle without the feed and standing up in a halter (yes I know he shows and judges).... but he shares the pics of them in working clothes. Just another two cents, if a couple of folks weren't so defensive about so much some folks may not poke them with a stick so much.

Bez, just an answer to your question about a 17 yr old cattle baron... I think he committed suicide for the 4th or 5th time.

It seems to me that if i go and buy a few cattlemen who post here in their hometown for what they're worth and go and sell them in the city for what they think they're worth I'll never have to work again.

I think there are business opportunities like this on both sides of the pond, but I'll start in the USA because of a better exchange rate ;-) :secret:

She looks like she could be the one 3WAY the last picture I saw of her was just a frontal view.Besides being an impressive cow,I have only seen her type in one other herd also linebred and was wondering if there was a connection.

She belongs to my partner and is one of my favorite cows. I am begging him to AI her to something like the Buster bull. Too bad she has no papers. i will see if I can find a picture of her calf this year with the RA bull.

here is another of the white cow's dtrs. She is 2 in this picture and pretty fat. To say she is an easy keeper is an understatement. Her only fault is she's about a frame score 4.5. She's also 4.5 wide.

Here's a couple more of my partners old school Shorthorns, they are not registered but they are sure good cattle.

He's a good bull. i would sure like to see what he would throw with the ladies I just posted. I think they would compliment him well.

the cow/calf pairs look like good quality easy keeping cattle. They have lots of width between their eyes and not to much length to their nose. Unfortunately some shorthorn breeders have bred cattle with heads that "look pretty". They have bred cattle that have less width between the eyes and have longer noses. Unfortunately with this "pretty" head you usually end up with and animal that is not as effiecient at converting roughage into beef.
