The Angus data from Ellis Farms is now posted. Click the AHA preformance link http://www.efbeef.com/EF_Performance.htm and scroll down until you get to the Angus section. I would like to say thanks to Ellis Farm for providing the information. I found it informative and supportive of both Angus and Herefords.
I have been told that Angus have slightly better marbling than Herefords and their information supports that. It is interesting to note that some Herefords were at the top in marbling, however on the average their Angus were higher. This also suggest that Hereford breeders need to use the lines of breeding that will increase marbling for maxiumn quality grade. It does encourage me about Hereford production because it clearly shows that when it comes to quality Herefords can be breed to perform as well as any breed.
On a side note the percentage of ulltrsound IMF needed to indicate prime is over 8 percent, so it appears both Herefords and Angus need to improve. I know that this is just a small sampling of the Angus breed , but it is the best information on registered Angus and Herefords raised under the same conditions that I have found to date.
