Afternoon folks,

I recently bought a herd of 30 cows from a local farmer who was retiring. In the mix was some simmental, black angus, and british white. They have been dropping calves for the last two months. 23 so far, lost one. I have been running mainly angus for a few years now. I'm considering buying another bull to bred back this herd. I have an angus bull(good stock, not registered) but I have been displeased with the weaning weights the past couple years. I thought maybe a better registered angus bull(better genetics) would make me a little extra at the stockyard. I have been reading about lim flex, balancer, and simangus crosses. Any suggestions on the best bull to bred this herd. We all know black is a must to get top dollar at the stockyard but I want a little faster growth(but no calfing problems. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I'm from southwest, va. Again I'm open to hear feedback from other farmers. I'm here to learn all I can from my peers.
 
Welcome to the board! I agree with RBB, go with a straight bred Bull. Should be able to find something with calving ease and a good growth spread. Be helpful to know what state you're located in as it makes a difference in the breed you use come sale barn time.

For me I would take into consideration how many were straight Simmental or Angus and mature cows. If the majority were Angus I would want a Black Sim. If most of the cows were Simmental, a Composite Angus or SimAngus. If I were working with mature cows I would shop for a high growth bull.
 
Most of the cows are angus and british whites. Most are mature. I have tracked down a few farmers in my area that have registered simmental bulls with good genetics. I feel like I will get better growth with the hybrid cross. I had also looked at a limousin cross but leaning towards Simmental. I would like to get good genetics going on my farm. Thanks to everyone for your input.
