Anybody heard or seen any of ABS's new bull Mile High or Accelerated's 2V1 calves. What are ya'lls picks for this years top Angus sires? I know Traveler 004 and 2V1 are going to be HOT! Just wanted to see what everyone elses opinions are. Thanks

I saw Traveler 004 last week when I dropped a bull off at the stud.

He was impressive. Even if he was Angus. ;-)

I am proud to say that I chose Riverbend Mile High 3718 as the No. 1 Bull at the Denver Show 2005, and did my best to convince a breeder to buy him, however Three Trees outbid him!! Rito 2V1 of 2536 1407, IMO, is going to be one of the real "Hot Commodities" in the Angus Breed one of these days, and I had him pegged a year ago! With G A R Precision 2536 as his dam, and BV New Design 1407 as his Sire - odds are in his favor! Almost all #'s fit - except his Scrotal EPD.

i think i saw that bull on bovine elite Doc. i picked him out as the top bull on that site. But i have never heard of that company before- do they sell semen nationwide?? is anyone else selling his semen???? $40 a stick and $40 for the certificate- pretty spendy- but might be worth it!!

We paid $30 a stick for new design 208- and it paid off!! our best angus heifer calf comes from him- and also our best bull- so sometimes spending more pays off!!! Too bad he is dead :(

Dan.

i guess i messed up- its ony $30 and $35 - not bad for such good genetics- tho the accuraccy is still pretty low.

if it becomes available here i will buy some.

What do you all think of this bull's potential? Spur Success 2801; AAA#14327307. Owned by Spur Ranch and SydGen, his first crop of sons sell at the Spur Ranch sale later this month. I don't know if semen is available or not.

docgraybull - IMO I think this bull has GREAT potential!

Bon View New Design 1407 is one of the finest bulls alive today. He is as heavily used as any Angus bull in the world for GOOD reason.

Spur Effie 006 traces back to some of the breed's best families and lines - GT Maximum, Scotch Cap, Leachman Hoss from Pine Drive Big Sky along with good Emulous breeding.

Considering 2801's EPD numbers:
Production: EXCELLENT! BW +0 WW =50 YW =101 Milk =25 which is slightly higher than I would prefer to see, but with his Production numbers - acceptable. And as a bonus, his Scrotal EPD is +.79! Calving Ease is okay. There are no Carcass EPD's yet, but the Ultrasound figures are pretty good - %IMF =.44, RE .43, but %RP is low at .05, however that is not too significant. The $Values are well balanced and very acceptable. All in all, I think this bull would be an asset to ANY herd, Breeding or Terminal.

I'll bet one could get semen from SydGen. Perhaps Spur Ranch will have semen for sale at their Sale this month.

You can get semen from Sydgen on Spur Success. They will also have some January bull calves for sale at their sale in November. Another Sydgen bull to look at is Sydgen Corona. He is a 1407 son out of a Precision daughter. I think he is positive for Scrotal as well. His Dam is selling at their sale. His first sons all looked very good last year at the sale.

Are you not referring to Angus Semen Service. I have never heard of the Angus Semen Source, I apoligize if I am wrong.

What do you all think of BR Midland? I saw two steers out of 2VI and they were great. Great bone, build, and weight....also saw a bull calf out of 1407 and he was very nice.....

Doc do you know if 1407 throws good feet? How about Midland? thanks JMD :cboy:

I can't comment from 1st hand knowledge, however, I would presume that, for both BR Midland and 1407, foot problems would not be a factor. With most traits being optimal, foot problems probably could not get a "foot in the door"! Midland is touted as being the TOP carcass bull of the Angus breed - %IMF +.77 and RE +.55(as of the first of this year - could be different now) Semen from Angus Semen Service. 1407 - has proved himself in over 1000 herds across the country. These figures are also as of the First of the Year (2005) so they are significantly higher now! Semen available from Angus Semen Service.

i found a similar bull to the 2V1 bull in the select sires lineup.

his name is rito 2 878 of 2536 BVND 878. and he is available from my regular supplier. so i will probably be using him next season rather then one that i have to have shipped to me.

some of his #'s are actually better than 2V1--- Sc is better as is REA. but growth #'s are a little lower- but still pretty darn good- and darn good pedigree from what research i have done. has anyone used him or seen his calves????

Dan.

I recently purchased 5 straws of 2vI from Angus Semen Service at $25 per straw. Certificates were $35 each. Fast shipment, good service. Getting ready to AI cows in Nov.

yeah- i am thinking of breeding a few to him next spring- so i kind of wanted to know now ;-)

All the new design blooded calves i have seen have been very good- so i think this should be a good bull to use. I will probably just buy 5 sticks to see what his calves look like. (5 is minumum order, fyi) and 5 sticks each of a couple of other bulls. since we can AI ourselves we like to try several different bulls. Last year we had really good calves from New Design 208 and now he is dead. So now we need to look for something else. We bred some cows to yield grade and ND 5050 last spring- will be interesting to see what they look like this next spring.

Dan.

We've had six Yield Grade calves so far this year and we are very satisfied thus far, we also thought about breeding some stuff to 5050 but we havent yet...sounds like somebody else as spent long nights thumbing through the select sires catalog
