So this guy is a June 24th, 2017 bull calf. His dam is a purebred Simmental cow, sired by Upgrade. This is her 5th calf, all bulls but one (should have kept the heifer, but sold her as a bred several years ago). He has NOT been creep fed, and in fact we just started putting grain out this week to try to treat for Cocci (with crumbles in the grain). I have not weaned him because he is an awesome heat checker.... but I think it is time! I hope to get him weaned this weekend. I took these tonight. We last weighed the cow in November, when we vaccinated, and she was 1295. She is due May 25th to Shell Shocked....

Yeh I got a few born early July up around 300kg mark and one at 354kg that are great at heat detecting. I have a cow that has not stuck to AI that I have earmarked to sell so have not persevered with her, she comes on heat very regularly and was due on Tuesday but so far no show. The only exposure she had was to the bull calves which is no problem as she is going and if in calf will be sold as such but if open she goes to the butchers.

I watched him with the last one in heat, he never puts his penis out... just jumps. His testis are not big enough yet.... but he will be weaned this weekend.

He is a tank. This is his maternal brother from last year...

He sounds like he is just being a gentleman. Nothing gentleman about my calves though, they all get their pencil out and sharpened. Some are prolapsing their anus from the strain to get the height.

Thanks for the compliment! He will not be advertised until the late spring (likely April or later). I like to develop my bulls until at least 9 months, and they have to pass a BSE. Ron makes the trip out here several times during that time, since his cattle are all bred and on grass by then, so it is possible. Just keep watching, I'll post him again later. I'll try to remember to post his weaning weight this weekend when we pull him in and separate him.

Farmboy, the bull I have advertised now is the two in the other thread, with the black bull and red bull calf.
 
So I weaned this guy tonight, weighed in at 708 pounds at 203 days of age. No creep. Not bad for my little 1250 pound cow!

A bull we raised, sired by Pays To Dream out of a Beef Maker x Pioneer cow we have (one of my favorites! She has a Cut Above heifer on her now that is fantastic!). I used that bull on two cows before I sold him at 12 months of age, because I liked his genetics. The other calf was sold on the side of his dam, a Shockforce x Anvil Acres Lady Prime that was not fertile enough to stay in our program.

The dam of that bull is no slouch, she had raised 3 bull calves that all weaned over 700 pounds, with this bull being the lightest.
