Amy Winehouse....

Help Support CattleToday:

There are many studies (and yes, be sceptical of "studies") showing the relationship between recognizeable amounts of talent and alcohol use (or drugs) in all fields of endeavor but especially in the arts.
I'm not versed enough to give a learned opinion, but dead celebrities have usually made a good career move.

So are you saying you believe in the 27 club curse John ?

Sorry to hear about your brother AC, sounds like you have some pretty raw wounds regarding your relationship. Deepest condolences .

some of you apparently have never known a good or talented person who had self destructive tendencies .

the shame is that so many could see this coming from a mile away but they were all too attached to her money to risk alienating her. even her parents.
Actually Jim
I just buried a brother saturday that was the type of guy who NO Matter what he did he was great at it
He held more welding certifications than anyone I have ever worked with and could weld things back together and make them work that most would throw away
He was also a great hydraulic crane mechanic and excelled at that

Anything he wanted to do He could do Very well
but instead he chose to drink himself to death and alienate most anyone who ever cared for him all for alcohol
and In MY Opinion
when he died IN MY OPINION IT STILL LEFT MORE OXYGEN IN THIS WORLD THAT A PRODUCTIVE PERSON COULD USE
He died on his 58th birthday

Angus Cowman,

I am sorry for your loss....I am more sorry that your brother managed to alienate you so completely.
I understand ....as several of my wifes relatives have similar problems...my wife is broken hearted over some of it.....

I agree TB....

but money changes all that....she is a classic example.

modern society puts a talented person who achieves some sucess, especially in part due to their outside the box behavior, on a pedestal and encourages more exotic behavior. doing stuff beyond the pale only generates more noteriety and more money.

the hangers on grasp at the money with no regard for the goose who is laying to golden eggs.

The I am important syndrome kicks in and the hangers on escelate and reinforce it.

Lady Gaga know how to play the game without the destructive behavior. Or hers has not been quite as destructive.
IF Lady GAGA is Talent where you come from then you must live in a very dull place
she would be nothing if she didn't put on the sideshow circus freak act
there is nothing talented about making yourslf up to be a complete lunatic
she does all the over the top BS just for attention and talent has nothing at all to do with it
Hearing her (sing) is about like listening to a cat slide down a chalk board with its claws dug in

Like George Strait said if people don't want to buy tickets to here me SING then I must not be very good and I am sure not gonna stand center stage in a circus and fireworks show just to sell tickets

Talent DOESN'T need an act true talent always shines

I do not believe that I ever said I thought she was talented. But people have made her rich in reward for her exotic behavior. George Strait has nothing to do with this.

I never heard of her- so out of curiosity I looked at her on utube
I don't get it- she was boring and not that good of a singer.

Exceptional people tend to be haunted by demons- its even worse when they are rich and/or famous
Theres nothing left to keep them grounded.
I was around alot of very rich people for awhile- in general they were very unhappy people.

I would tend to agree with that last statement.

Many years ago i worked for a man who was a self made billionaire. he started out dirt poor so he was grounded. He is still alive and I saw him on TeeVee this wekend so I won't name him.

But at the time I said that I did not think I would want to trade places with him. When he was shaving in the morning he had to warn himself that someone was going to try to take something from him that day. I saw him receive with strong reservation, every greeting, handshake, comment or suggestion. His trust had to be earned over long duration. this was all a product of being taken advantage of by alleged friends. everyone wanted to be his friend so he would support their scheme or project or them. His few true friends even got pressured to twist his arm for money.

I am pretty sure that he was not as happy as I was at the same time and I was just a notch above flat broke.
