Got a phone call this week asking if I'd be willing to let American Pickers go through some of my stuff. What in the world?
 
I refuse to watch that show on the History Channel because it has little to do with history. It's one of many changes in formats to TV stations which the foolish American majority has embraced, and which exemplifies their ignorance. There is no music on MTV anymore, no science on Discovery, Animal Planet has long blocks of shows about immature adults with more money than sense trying to relive their childhoods by hiring contractors to build ostentatious tree houses. It's embarrassing to be an American sometimes, knowing how many of us are so darn stupid.
 
Come on Luca, American Pickers is about antiques and historical artifacts. So is Pawn Stars. I don't like much on TV but I like those two shows. Jo, if you're going to be in an episode I definitely want to see it.
 
Jo, You might give them a run for their money negotiating your stuff. Maybe the bearded charmer has met his match.

Yeah, I get the superficial association to history, but that's not the intent of those shows. Both would be mildly interesting if they were on an entertainment channel, not on one supposedly dedicated to history. That's another reflection on the intelligence of the average American. We're not interesting in learning anything anymore unless it's also entertaining.
 
Expecting a cahnnel named a specific subject to actaully deal with that subject is pretty naive. All of them are in the entertainment business. PBS may be the only one that is actaully dealing with some subjects that you would expect. But since it's so dam boring I never watch it. Even CSPAN has had crap that I woudln;t expect, but it's boring too.

BTW, PBS did a decent documentary on exhibiting cattle a few years ago. You can miss out on a lot if your only criteria for learning is that it not be boring.

I'm too dam old to watch stuff if it's boring. I had over 70 years of that, don;t need anymore. Now all I want is to be entertained, if I happen to learn something while doing it that's fine.
 
By the time the American Pickers crew gets through the wine tasting session. He'll be able to sell them his herd of inbalancers.

Do you ever have anything good to say about anything or anyone??
 
You can watch historical footage until the cows come home on YouTube and you won't even be scratching the surface of what's on there. No need for a TV channel that does the same thing.
 
I'll keep you informed on how it goes. Don't know how far out they do the filming before they air it but I'll know more shortly. I do know this, you won't be seeing my mug on television. Besides, what little cool stuff I have isn't for sale.

I don't know exactly. There was some mention of the Chamber of Commerce so someone in there must have been talking to them. Why they thought I had a bunch of old stuff is beyond me. I do have some old stuff but nothing like you see on television. Fifteen years ago it would have been a different story. Had a bunch of old gas pumps and oil signs but all this was sold at auction years ago. That is the only thing I can think of other than maybe someone is grasping for straws after making some big promises to get them here for PR for our little berg.
