Wow. He was a stud wasn't he. Holy cow.

Beat another Triple winner by 2.5 seconds. (an argument could be made for ground, wind differences, etc.) But that's pretty amazing. The world loves a fast horse. And I personally love watching a natural athlete doing what they do, be it a cow/duck/rabbit dog, cutting/race/rope/cow horse. Just some great watching.
 
Ofcourse, we'll never know, but how much faster could Secratariat have gone with American Pharoah on his heels?

Wonder how much faster Secretariat could have run IF the jockey ever hit him with the whip. I think that big old boy just sort of of had it on cruise control the last half of the race.

By the posted video it appears American Pharoah would have battled the 2nd and 3rd place horses at the finish.

Why use a whip when you have a 31 length lead? :lol: As the line in the movie, what was most important ...."don't fall off Ronny!"

I'm not sure 2 seconds would equate to 31 lenths. I figured 12 to 15 maybe.
 
Just watched a video of Affirmed winning the triple crown. Only 5 horses and Alydar kept him honest all the way.
 
Big Red was in a class by himself. Pharo is great and that was a moment in my life ill treasure. Hopeto see him again in the breeders cup or haskalls race. Bill nacks book on Sec is worth a read. After death they found is heart was litterally 2-3 times larger than an average thoughbred.

It was shame that breeders did not figure out that the large heart could only be passed on through the daughters. After Secretariat's proved to be a bust he fell from grace. Sadly a great bloodline probably died with him, probably the likes we will never see again.
 
While big red never produced well in the breeding barn he was a long ways from falling from grace, a great horse that we, here, still talk about every year. He did not fall from grace.
 
Alan it was hoped that Big Red could pass on to his sons his greatness. Sadly that did not happen in the racing world where he did somewhat fall from grace. To me the amazing thing was that the old man that was his breeder had figured out what most in racing had not in regard to the oversized heart.
