American Heart Association® Certifies Extra Lean Ground Beef

nah--they just won't grind in as much fatty tissue to make the extra lean gb.

There's such a small segment of the buying public in this nation that gives a rat's butt about that heart healthy thing, that it will have so close to zero effect that ya might as well call it zero. 98 of 100 retail buyers look at $/lb when buying hamburger meat and nothing else.
But, it will probably be played up by someone somewhere as something more--just one more "let's throw it at the wall and see if it sticks" marketing ploy. (maybe they'll offer a free set of ginsu steak knives or a plush toy if ya buy 10lb or more..)

The American Hear Associations opinion on what is healthy will affect a small segment of the low information crowd, until next week when they discover something different. I'm seeing a growing trend amongst chefs and the local foods movement to recognize the health benefits of certain types of animal fat in the diet. Especially when replacing certain processed vegetable fats. So maybe they can hold it out of the burger and use it for cooking the fries.
