Amercian Cream Draft

Does anyone have any experience with this fairly rare breed? I've fell in love with them, and thinking of getting one - but I have no hands on experience with the breed. I've been around many breeds - now mostly Arabian, but never American Cream Drafts. Something about a true American breed that is so attractive appeals to me. Anyone???

Nope, don't know sheet from shinola about them, will ask a trainer I know though. I just continue my quest for the dream palamino gelding, small, cow smart and can rein like a champion. :D

Palominos can be found fairly easily... I like the Quarab palaminos the best (arabian/Q.H.) - their pretty and smart/stout.


What I like about the American Cream Draft is that it is a true American draft - the only one, and it's fairly rare. I believe there are only around 500 or 600 worldwide.

The palomino I dream of is an American Cream Draft crossed with one of my Arabian stallions. That would be nice!

not terriably familar with them..but do know about their rarity..:)

Rarity can be a double edged sword..in regards to owning one and marketing them..I own a rare breed of pony..I do like owning something no one has heard of before, the horses seem to be REALLY good stock, and the people involved in the breed more like a "family" type network then a true breed network, like the QH..but you also run into the problem of connecting with other owners sometimes and also "Selling" the horse as the gem you know it is..in regards to trying to "promote" the breed..

Darn it! Wish you were closer too. I did see the boy I wanted at an auction about 3 months after I had picked up this old nag of a paint mare. He was fantastic, did everything any rider that got on him asked him to do. They ended up no saleing him at $3500.

No problem Misty, I love talking horses. If you were closer I could hook you up with a palamino pretty cheap. Weird, I guess: all of the American Cream Drafts are either in the midwest or on either coast. I'd have to pay as much to have the horse shipped as I would for the horse. They can be bought from $1000 to $3000 even with riding and driving experience. They are not expensive, but I like the color and the docile nature they have. Everyone that I've talked to about drafts brag on their demeanor. I actually had a half arabian/ half QH palamino filly last year that I sold for $1000. I have a chesnut Arabian mare that I'm breeding next year to a perlino QH to make another pal.

I'm not too familiar with the hallflinger. But my ideal horse is a 15hh or so very strong/muscular horse, but with fine points - like pointed/tipped ears, high tail carriage, pretty trot, even a slightly dished head. I guess that's why I like Arabians so much.

I sold hay to a guy who has them. They were nice horses as far as know. He now gives carriage rides with them in town. I know one other lady on the west side of my county that is breeding them but never been out there.
