Last I checked is was like 20 something percent. There is more wind than coal now. Our majority is natural gas fired power plants.The Go Green folks are living a lie. The windmills are producing a little over half the power in Texas today though. Makes it hard for reliable power operators to make money.
I heard from a board member of ERTOC that renewable energy devices make up 30% of the Texas grid and only produces 1.5% of the energy, we are not ready for renewable energy at that rate. I try to sleep every couple days. Sometimes its 36 hours with a 15 minute nap🛋 Dang sleep monster trying to get me.

I might be off some but Texas has around 28,000 MW of wind and a total capacity of around 125,000 MW total. The wind and solar aren’t reliable or predictable. Somedays it barely makes anything and other days its kicking along good then just takes a nose dive in the middle of the day. The wind turbines are also spread out so not all of them will produce power. Not sure how much solar is available but it’s less reliable than wind. I do know a 20,000 + acre solar farm is going in down the road from me. I believe it will only produce 2,000 or so MW at it’s peak. Of the other 100,000 MW available only around 65-70,000 is clean efficient power. I’m thinking a 68 -70,000 MW load in the heat of the summer is about all ERCOT wants. ERCOT could fix the renewable deal by requiring wind and solar farms to install “peakers” capable of replacing the MW load they produce at full capacity when the wind and solar are needed but not available or by doing away with the 20% cap. Not so much per wind mill. The Hydro power is huge and cheap. The reason the PNW has low electric costs.Here in Washington, we have lots of windmills. Not to mention Hydro Electric dams . Not sure how much they generate, but it has to be a bunch.

Yeah, all those wonderful hydro electric plants would NEVER have a chance of being built today... not "environmentally friendly" at all, because of the impact to the fish, etc. Washington Palouse/Moses Lake region would be a desert.Not so much per wind mill.
