I called my wife at her work to see if she would be leaving on time she told me yes we were talking and she told me there was a guy my age there and they were super slammed and hold times extremely long I said well stay if you want no biggie we were talking she told me a guy told her he was dying and needed to be seen soon so she pulled strings got him back there while I was on the phone with her someone coded I heard alarms go off she hung up 15 mins later she called back said still doing cpr and shocking him.

Chippie she is a ER RN at a local hospital. Yes, It is very stressful and taxing on her. The guy was undergoing cpr and the paddles for 20 mins got a faint pulse and cut his side to put a tube in his longs and took him to er the dr told my wife if he lives he will be an miracle. That sucks hearing things like that I could not do that kind of work. I hope he makes it. I know one thing those darn paddles burn your shin I had burn marks for 2 weeks.

Seriously I have Atrial fibrillation my heard wasn't beating it was just fluttering as in just vibrating and not beating they had to paddle me repeatedly and it left marks on my skin if you are talking about why I was paddled. If you are speaking on the guy at my wifes work he had heart attack.

I did see a few people in an ambulance go past me and the people inside were doing manual CPR on the patient. That totally stopped my thoughts and meaning of life at that very moment and for the rest of the night. It changes how I feel just typing about it now. I pray for the person that goes by as I wonder if they are going to make it, and what is their family going through. Later I wished that I knew the person was OK.

Sky, I know A-Fib all too well myself. I was on the table in the hospital to get cardioversion which is the technical term for zapping you with the paddles.

Drs decided against it at the last moment. My A-Fib was so bad they feared the cardioversion would cause blood clots to go to my heart, lungs, or brain.

The way I describe A-Fib to people unfamilar with it, I compare a heart in A-Fib to a butter churn. The fluttering/quivering heart basically churns the blood inside and doesn't pump out as it should.

The blood develops clots which are extremely dangerous and can life threatening if they travel to and lodge in the brain, lungs, or heart muscle itself. The only thing that kept me alive until surgery was large doses of warfarin.

As part of my surgery, I had a Maze(sp?) procedure done which involves surgical cutting on the heart itself to eliminate bad/short electrical circuits.

I understand it that this is why my heart will no longer beat on it's own and I am 100% dependent on my pacemaker.

So if my pacer quits, it's been nice knowing you guys! ;-)

Chuckie thanks but I will take my heart issues over some of the other ailments out there I get by I can't do some things I use too but im alive and know my limitations. It was a complete shock to me I couldnt breathe and dr made a mistake said was bronchitis WRONG WRONG WRONG which is why I will not go to see a dr over like 50 now. I would cough and pass out happened behind the wheel and walking around. The man was still alive when she left last night not sure about today.

John that is spot on I had cardioversion and luckily after getting shocked numerous times I got back on some what of a rhythm and as of now no pace maker needed yet. I have a constant fast heartbeat though about 20 bpm higher than an average person. I will spare all the details of mine and I am glad you are ok John. I do not mis going every week to get blood tested for thinness and warfarin.
