Got another nice bull calf today. Three more cows to calve and the commercial herd will be done for the year.

You are ahead of us. We are about 5 days away from our first calf. Hope the last 3 come without issues.
So far so good. I have had good luck on the calving from this particular bull. I have had a bunch of calves out of him and only had to pull one from a heifer mostly because she just got tired. I don't anticipate any issues but I try to watch them close.

I'm all AI and was supposed to start around Feb 26.
First one came on Valentines 2/14, 12 days early. Bull calf 52 lbs. healthy.
Same bull on another cow looks like she'll go till due date easy.
A few caught on second AI for mid March.
As much as I learn I'll continue to scratch my head hairless.

Whoops, I already have.

Better early gestation than late. I had a heifer go 2 weeks late.....calf was near 100 lbs. She had it but she really struggled. They are putting on a ton of weight in that last few days so running over due date can really pack the lbs on a calf.

Had two first calf heifers calve last week. Easy births, healthy bull calves and all doing well. 70 degrees today helps a lot. It was about 20 the day one was born.

Yes sir I agree.
I'd much rather have them put that weight on outside the confines of the womb.
I just thought With the same bull I'd have a more consistent gestation period.
A whole lot of factors go into this guesswork. ;-)
