Come on folks, entertain a worthless cripple for a few days. I tore something in my breeding arm yesterday and am laid up. :cry2: I thought I was tough enogh to breed through it but I can barely move my arm much less use it on a cow. I tried one in my first pen and knew right then that I'm screwed for at least a few days. Luckily my relief breeder canceled some days withanother guy because he's sick as a dog so I had him come out and I chalked all the cows with my "good" hand that's missing two fingers and had him just do the breeding... Don't know what I'll do for the next few days. Someones got to breed the cows but it won't be me. Nothing on the farm will get done either.
About all I can do is sit around ansd stare at the computer and peck with my left ring finger, so come on folks, entertain a worthless cripple... I'm begging :help:

Doesn't sound like much fun. Woke up a couple months ago with a pinched nerve in my neck and right arm killing me. Took over 30 days to get completely back to normal and just got feeling back completely in thumb a week or so ago. Hope you mend quickly. In the meantime I'll buy you a six pack. :drink: :cowboy:

Well, that's a crappy way to start the day ain't it? I feel for you CP, that's not a good time.

Curiosity----what happened that you're missing 2 fingers? If you tell your missing fingers story, I'll tell my barely-functional-permanently-bent finger story. Unless it is something that is no one's business but yours, I'll respect that.

As for entertainment, hmmm, have you read the post by Bama on the coffee shop regarding #801? That's pretty entertaining!

I can tell you what the weather is like here across the country in Va (at least my part of it)----sunny, breezy green grass, leaves coming out on the trees, RedBuds in full bloom, Dogwoods starting to bloom----mountains are changing color again. Planning this years garden. Wood boring bees are bouncing off of buildings, windows and trees. Supposed to be around 80 today, pretty darn warm for this time of year. My strawberry plants already have flowers, my apple trees are blooming, the peach trees and pear tree finished last week.

Still waiting on the last 2 calves to be born.

I tickled Lorena Bobbit.
Actually i stuck my hand up the discharge chute on a tub style hay grinder to clear one last little bit of wet hay. Everything was off but that hay was holding enough pressure that as i pulled it out the tub spun a little and shredded my fingers... I've never really missed them until now.

That really sucks CP. I can not stand to be laid up. I have to be up and moving about. I don't have to work myself to death, but I ha to do something. Right now, I am doing my Contractors continuing education online while looking at the various forums I participate in. I need to stay busy. Did you know that there are places online that you can help with proofreading. You can read a lot of stuff before it is published and it is amazing the stuff you learn. Try it, just google online proofreading.

I have broke enough bones and dislocated enough major joints to understand all to well how much fun it is to sit around waiting to get well. I feel for you. Here on CT I think there are two ways to get enertained. Start threads subjects which you know something about and get some interesting educational discussion started. The other is to kick a hornets nest and step back and watch the fight which will occur. Either one can be enertaining in its own way.

But mostly just kick back and heal up.

melking- that's a neat idea. i'll probably try it in the next day or so at the pace i'm running out of ideas.
dave- i don't know enough about anything to start a new thread and i stay away from finger pointing competitions 'cause i tend to come up a little short... maybe you could do me a favor and go start a thread on the glories of cab over on the breeds forum.

CP, the CAB discussion could be a good one. Which side should I take? For or against? The Angus vs Hereford is another one. We could just get it started then sit back and watch. The Southerner vs Yankee is another one that can get the messages to flying. Just say anything negative about that state just south of Oklahoma. You would be healed up and back to breeding cows before that one would settle down.

Hey, I am not foolish enough to do that. I was just giving a bored CP ideas to enertain himself.

That would do it!! :lol2:

Ouch!

In keeping my word I'll tell my story. I was finishing a training session with a 3 yr old Appaloosa, waiting for a friend to finish with her horse. Just standing there, off the horse, holding the reins (facing him) and for some reason known only to a 3 yr old Appaloosa he shot backwards like a rocket-sled on rails which jerked the lines out of my hand fast as lightning and then he just stood there. Husband dragged me to the ER (against my wishes...good thing he did) at 11:00 that night I was scheduled for reconstructive surgery for the next morning. Ended up with 4 cracked bones in 2 fingers, cracked bones in the hand, little finger shattered and tendons torn in palm of the hand. Right hand.....I'm right handed of course. Rebuilt the finger, 4 months later second surgery to un-stick the tendon from the bones of that finger as they had adhered to it in the straight position. After second surgery the finger is now stuck in a permanent bend. That would be the little finger. There have been times when I have thought to just have the thing cut off at that 1st knuckle, but guess not.

It is no fun to be laid up. I couldn't do anything with that right hand for close to 4 months, between the 2 surgeries. Amazing how fast one can learn to be left handed, and find ways of getting by with only one hand.

The best part of the whole thing? While I've got this cast on the hand, half-way up my arm, pins and all, half-way thru the healing from 1st surgery--- I broke my left foot! :lol2: After the Doctor re-arranged those bones he informs me I will need to use crutches (Duh!) I then hold up my right hand/arm and ask him just how am I supposed to do that? :lol2:  Oh yeah, that was fun time!! I hated having other folks do my work.

This too shall pass.

when it rains it pours, right? at least with two injuries you feel hurt enough to sit... i feel good when i'm sitting here so i try to do something and it starts throbbing and im'm back on my butt.
one of the first lessons i taught my kids about horses was how to double the lead rope and hold the loop so that if they set back you don't getcaught in the bite and it saved my six year old from my big horse a few days ago. :D i also make them use cotton ropes instead of nylon so it won't burn them. sorry you learned it the hard way.

that's a fantastic idea... maybe we could push southerners against each outher and make them fight like crawdads. i'm thinking something along the lines of a thread titled, which southern state is the best, and then just watch the show.

Tough break, it'll be better in time.
thanks and you're right. breeding my route is a a fifteen mile a day hike so even when i'm down i'm not right if i don't get to move some since that's what my body is used to. i get depressed within about two days if i can't move around.

I can tell you about my thrilling day:
I rode the CARTS bus to the grocery store (mile or so from the house, took an hour) shopped, rode home.. unloaded groceries, took a nap, visited Library..
And it's raining right down,so I've been on the porch watching and smiling and saying Thank You..
Get well soon, took about 6 months after I got hit by the SUV for me to begine to use my arm...at least it was my left arm.

I'll start the show :lol2: Virginia!!! Home to Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Dolly Madison. Birthplace of George Washinton, Robert E. Lee. Birthplace of Secretariat! :D

Peg---sounds like quite the exciting day! If it took and hour to get to the grocery store, sounds like you got a tour of town, not bad.

We've had some rain too and I am very thankful for it.
