Note "common question #4" at bottom of article saying alfalfa silage doesn't cause bloat. I find that odd - but I'm no expert in silage / baleage. Anyone with experience that can comment? Does the silage process actually prevent bloat? Seems like since it's put up high moisture and all it would make it worse????

The wilting/drying process changes the protein structures and ensiling further changes the proteins rendering them less to non-bloat producing.

Figured the higher moisture and fermentation would make it worse....

What are the upsides and downsides of 3rd cutting alfalfa baleage (45% moisture) that's been roto cut? Have a chance to pick some up reasonably.

Roto cut bales break up easier due to the shorter pieces. That hay might be pretty high octane depending on when it was cut. Balage is a problem if you puncture the wrap hauling which leads to spoilage. It will also freeze up if you get a brutal winter like last year.
