Everybody ready for dove season? Opens Sept 4. I'm ready, BUT, I have to be in Montgomery for the State horse show. My 11 year old son is High Point winner in Pony halter in the North Alabama Saddle Club Association.

I've been obligated to do something opening day as well so I won't be going. Good weather and large quantities of spilled corn kernels shourld make for an exciting day. But....

I had too much to do yesterday to be able to shoot does, but there must have been a lot of folks around me who did. I heard shots all afternoon in the fields behind the house across the creek from us.
We had Dove hunters on the property next to our driveway and fenceline. My daughter left for school and called to tell us that there were dead and wounded birds all over out driveway and right of way.
I got on the tractor and hedded down the driveway to a clear spot along the fenceline. There was a round roll of hay, and a four wheel kawasaki, I just sat there. Finally the hunter herd the tractor idleing and peeked around to see what was going on. When he saw me he said "Hello, I know you, don't you know me". He went on to introduce himself as if he was in trouble. I told him that I did'nt mind hunters just as long as they did'nt shoot my livestock,my home, or destroy my fences. I also told him he was welcome to enter at the gate to retrieve his birds. It was a nice calm visit with no harm intended by either of us. He thanked me and I went on my way.
Five am the next morning,
Kathy informs me that all the cattle in the pasture next to the hunt are gone. I went to investigate and sure enough, not a cow in sight. The spot where I talked to the hunter had my fence pushed down to the ground and thats where the cattle got out. [so much for being the nice guy]
Kathy and I went for a walk calling our cows, here they came from the brushed, wooded area of the neighbors place. We walked back through the hole and the girls followed. Needless to say, I mended the fence and added two strands of barb wire.
Why do hunters go ape sh... and destroy other peoples property when they hunt?
