Just wondering how everyone is fairing with the weather. Things have improved here tremendously and was just wondering how you are making it. Any improvement?

Update = We have had 3" of rain since Friday morning and it raining this evening. The pasture is actually beginning to green up.
One of the things that the 13 or 14 days of 100 degree plus heat has done is to make me appreciate the normal mid to high temps in the 80s here.
Today while it was raining the temps dropped to 72 degrees for a short while.

The bahia is brown and the coffee weed is wilted. Kudzu is green but not growing. It's been almost 2 weeks since any rain but at least the rain chances are 50% for the next week.

Things are fast improving, but not fast enough.... Feed Corn is gone, but I think I'll make it on hay.
You can thank me for the rain later. Cut and raked hay, then ran over a log the size of my thigh... :oops: Rained that night on the windrows and everynight since. Baler should be pieced back together by Saturday. Rain should end then.

No rain here in 3 weeks. I'm just glad we got what we got last month and the month before or there would be no grass.
I am still hoping to start baling hay Saturday. They say 50% which means 0%. I have had 40% all week and the only water I have seen ran off my forehead.

It is dry. I haven't mowed my lawn in weeks. Copper thieves are now stealing bales of hay. Did I mention it's dry. There is enough dust and ragweed pollen in the air to choke a horse.
The only useful plant growing is Alfalfa. Love that tap rooted wonder. I'm debating a cut now, however. I don't want to kill off a big investment.
This too shall pass. I hope it passes before my herd passes into someone else's hands.

Went to a get-together put on by the Co-op yesterday evening. They were going to compare different chemical spray plots.
The spray plots and the non-sprayed strips between them all looked the same since we've had almost no rain all summer. The grass was about 1/2" long in the high spots. Guy doing the explaining kept saying "You can't see it now, but . . "

Finally......... got 1 inch on Sunday, 4/10 on Monday, and it's sprinkling again now. Should get in 1 more cutting of hay this year if the rain will keep up.
Hay is going to be tough to find this winter.

I'm glad so many of you are finally getting rain and I'll keep the less fortunate in my prayers. Maybe the trend is changing for the better. Its definitely been a discouraging year.

Looks like we are getting some of that Texas weather now. Has rained every day this week and things are looking much greener.

In my head I'm starting to hear the "Sons of the Pioneers" singing about cool, clear water. And the burning sands. And I'm seeing rain clouds on the horizon, but they never get here.
It will rain someday. Life would be easier if I could get a timeline on when. My 83 year old Pop tells me it may not rain before it snows. Yikes! :lol:
