MY NAME IS ALICE SMITH AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.

SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 40-ODD YEARS AGO. COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?
UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN PARK HIGH SCHOOL.

"YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG," HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

"WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?" I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED ,! ! ! "IN 1959. WHY DO YOU ASK?"

"YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!", I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY. THEN, THAT UGLY, OLD, BALD, WRINKLED, LARD BUTT, GRAY-HAIRED, DECREPIT SOB ASKED, "WHAT DID YOU TEACH?"

OUCH! I bet Ms. Smith felt about the same as the girl I knew from high school who I asked when she was DUE. God, I felt like cutting my tongue off after seeing the look on her face and realizing my blunder. I'm really not that mean a person. Honest.

Saw a fellow I went to high school with one day several years ago when I was getting my son from elementary school. He had a daughter the same age, it turned out. This fat bald fellow came up to me and asked me if I went to school in Granbury. I said yes. He asked me about my maiden name, and I said yes. When he told me who he was, I almost fell out! He was a tall dark handsome Hispanic fellow with wavy black hair and a macho mustasche. All I could say was the following:

"Wow! You sure do look like your daddy!"

He never spoke to me again.

 Sometimes I wish I had a REWIND button on life. A 3 minute rewind would work just fine. :D

I look in the mirror and more and more every day I see my Dad looking at me. God rest his soul. But on the other hand I'm proud of every grey hair, every wrinkle, and every previous broken bone that aches when it's cold. Cause i've worked hard all my life to get where i'm at. And have a lot of friends and relatives that never made it this far in life. I see it as an acomplishment. And I never forget to give thanks that I can still out work a lot of the younger men. If I'm still going in march i'll turn 65.

Every once in awhile I could swear I am living with my father-in-law who died long ago. Then I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and egads, there's my father. Talk about genetics in cattle, how about us? It's spooky.

Green Creek... loved your post. We recently hired my cousin who was never "fathered" by my uncle (with whom I've very close). The similarities in those two men who never lived together are astounding.... pure genetics at work.

My husband, also, never really knew his dad until about 10 years ago... he now says he can look at his dad and see where he'll be in 30 years (they've had a lot of the exact same medical problems).

Forgot to add... was at my middle daughter's basketball game and the youngest had to "potty". So we're returning from the restroom and I notice her shoe is untied so I said "hold on hunny, lets get that shoe tied". Her little friend comes over to us on the bleachers and says "Madison, I saw your grandma tying your shoe". My husband about busted a gut on that one. He still calls me granny occasionally and chuckles (I'm thirty-eight).

OOH-I wake up 20 years old****then try to climb out of bed!
Every year of these 64 come home realfast :(
Well,considering the alternitive,it's OK.....really.....

I am raising my grandson. Practically everyone who doesn't know me talks about my "son". Sure swells my head
